Item description for Billy the Kid Returns (Roy Rogers Best Of The West) by Wade Boteler, Smiley Burnette, Joseph Crehan, George "Gabby" Hayes, Robert Emmett Keane & Joseph Kane...

The real Billy the Kid is killed in the opening scenes by the local Sheriff. However, a young cowboy (Rogers) shows up the next day, and is mistaken for the famous criminal, due to a close resemblance. With the Sheriff's blessing, Rogers decides to become Billy the Kid in order to help the homesteaders of Lincoln County restore law and order from the grips of the evil local henchmen, employed by rich ranch barons wanting to steal their land. A fun Roy Rogers classic!

Under Joseph Kane (Director), Charles E. Ford (Producer), Jack Natteford (Screenwriter), Ernest W. Miller (Cinematographer), Smiley Burnette (Songwriter), Edward Cherkose (Songwriter) - - - - - - Our story line and plot, this is the second starring role for Roy Rogers, as Roy plays himself and the famous "Billy the Kid" as he is mistaken for him --- after Pat Garrett (Wade Boteler) kills Billy, Rogers takes his place helping the homesteaders --- some comic relief by Smiley Burnette as he falls off the wagon trying to get a kiss from Miss Ellen (Lynne Roberts/Mary Hart) --- the great and wonderful actor Fred Kohler Sr. appears doing his best to foil our hero --- some wonderful tunes, "Born to the Saddle," "Trail Blazin'", "When the Sun is Setting on the Prairie", "When I Camped under the Stars", "Dixie Instrument Song," "Sing a Little Song about Anything" and "Give Me the Range." --- our King of the Cowboys wound up portraying a number of historical men of the West in his oaters --- If you liked this, you might want to catch him as "Young Bill Hickok" (1940), "Days of Jesse James" (1939), "Jesse James at Bay" (1941), and "Young Buffalo Bill" (1940).
