Item description for Blessed Child-Movie Edition (Caleb Books) by ted dekker & Bill Bright...
The young orphaned boy was abandoned and raised in an Ethiopian monastery. He has never seen outside its walls -- at least, not the way most people see. Now he must flee those walls or die. But the world is hardly ready for a boy like Caleb. When relief expert Jason Marker agrees to take Caleb from the monastery, he unwittingly opens humanity's doors to an incredible journey filled with intrigue and peril. Together with Leiah, the French Canadian nurse who escapes to America with them, Jason discovers Caleb's stunning power. But so do the boy's enemies, who will stop at nothing to destroy him. Jason and Leiah fight for the boy's survival while the world erupts into debate over the source of the boy's power. In the end nothing can prepare them for what they will find.

 | Life Changing!!! Apr 15, 2010 |
"Blessed Child", by Ted Dekker and Bill Bright, was one of the most influential books I have ever read in my life. It was so meaningful to both my husband and I, that we chose the name Caleb for our firstborn son. Blessed Child goes far beyond a fictional story and enters the realm of inspirational and life-changing. Having read a number of Dekker's books in the past, I was expecting another thrilling read and was not disappointed. However, Bill Bright added a sense of theological truth that made me think and view this book as a catalyst for change in my own personal walk. This is not a book that I would form the basis for my faith on, it is an opinion regarding the kingdom of God. A "what if" expose into the realm of eternity. And it is this factor of the book that I loved the most. It brought me to a perspective I hadn't thought of before. It showed me a side of God that I thought was totally believable and possible and drew me closer to Him in the process. It touched a cord in my life and heart that dramatically changed my relationship with God and opened my eyes to thinking outside the box.
The character development in this story is so well done that you will be walking alongside Caleb as he follows this incredible journey. If you are looking for a good story, this book is for you. If you are looking for a new perspective, this book is for you. And if you are looking for a book with depth of insight, then this book is for you. Whatever you are looking for, read this book. I guarantee you that Caleb's story will bless you as it has for me. | | | | Ted Dekker Keeps Me Up at Night Feb 26, 2007 |
I love reading Christian fiction and there are some great novelists out there, some of whom are my good friends. I especially enjoy Ted Dekker who is a nonstop adrenalin rush. I imagine a day with Ted is like a season of 24.
I finally got around to reading The Blessed Child mainly because all of my friends and coworkers kept putting it on my desk and telling me I needed to read it. They were right. What a thrill ride.
I usually don't enjoy anything fantasy or sci-fi, but Ted does this genre so well that I think he transcends it. He uses fiction as a sort of challenge to the church and to ask "what-if" questions. In this one, he uses a little boy from an obscure monastery in Eithiopia to challenge America, especially American Christians, to "walk in the kingdom." This boy is gifted with rare God-given abilities to heal people and yet his mesage is greater, that you and I can live everday in the Spirit, we can tap into God's awesome power and see His fingerprint on the everday grit of our lives.
I have to admit that this book made me uncomfortable in the sense that it challenged how I think of God. Too often I limit God. I shrink Him down and put him into the tiny pizza box that is my life. I conform God to my own worldview. This is why I often find myself frustrated at life.
The way of the Holy Spirit is to walk and live and see life as in God's great control. To look above people and circumstances and problems and walk on holy ground. I want to do that and this novel, which kept me up late last night, has brought me just a step closer to living in the reality that is God's love.

'Blessed Child' is an amazing piece of fiction. It goes way beyond a great story, although it is that. It is also a thought provoking work that will challenge the worldview of many Christians.
In 2 Timothy 3:5, we are told that in the last days, people will hold to a form of godliness while denying its power. This book will shed a lot of light on that verse for many.
One spiritual truth that is mentioned here and is demonstrated in the story is that 'a healed heart and transformed life are far more spectacular than a straightened hand or restored sight'.
I won't get into any more details regarding the book itself. Suffice it to say: This is an amazing novel. I recommend it highly. | | | | One of the Best Books I have EVER Read Jan 18, 2007 |
| Ted Dekker and Bill Bright take a very nebulous concept "The Kingdome of God" and put a very practical face on it. This is one of those books that will keep you spell bound while you read it and "haunt" your thoughts and quiet times for months after. What if we were so in tuned with what God was doing in our world that we only did what we saw Him doing? | | | | Blessed Child Jan 14, 2007 |
| I have read all of Dekkers books w/in 6 months. This is my favorite one. This challeneged me spiritually and had me take a deeper look into my own FAITH and what do I believe and how strongly do I believe it. I bought a few of these as Christmas gifts. You know when you find something really good, like a new cleaning product, a better stomach crunch, etc...you want to tell everyone about it. I tell everyone about Dekkers books.:) | | | | Exciting and Inspirational Jun 25, 2006 |
My wife and I read this book aloud together and couldn't put it down. It's a thrilling story, with an enjoyable cast of characters. Caleb's journey from total innocence to dealing with the real world and worldliness is both heart-rending and yet not contrived.
I guess the "bad guys" in the book are are stereotyped -- not much "gray zone" here. But for Christians who are willing to have their complacency and allegiances challenged, I'll bet you can see some of the "bad guys" in yourself as well. That's the value of these books, besides the temporary entertainment -- the opportunity to question your own faith and commitment.
Those who like the novels of Randy Alcorn and Frank Peretti will enjoy Dekker as well. He's somewhere between those two -- not quite as powerful and gutsy as Alcorn's human situations, and not so much into depicting angels and demons as Peretti, but yet very attuned to the supernatural.
My wife and I are now in the middle of the sequel, and look forward to exploring more of Dekker. | | | Write your own review about Blessed Child-Movie Edition
