A Great Resource On Prayer To Alleviate Stress  Sep 30, 2014
What we need is a cure. The true remedy to stress, Linda Evans Shepherd says, is prayer. In this inspiring book, she shows you how to recognize God’s continual presence in your life and yield your troubles to the Prince of Peace. Through captivating stories, explorations of fascinating biblical characters, and examples of deeper-than-ever prayers, she brings within your grasp the peace that passes understanding. If you are overwhelmed by all of the urgent demands on your time, this book offers you a lifeline to true peace.

Linda Evans Shepherd knows that all of us have to deal with stress. How do we deal with this? Stress left unchecked can do irreparable damage and eventually will kill us. Is the answer cut back on what we schedule? Eat better? Exercise? Sleep better? While all these things are good for us and we should implement them the real answer is prayer. What we need is peace and since Jesus is the Prince of Peace the way we find peace is to talk to him about what is going on in our lives. In “The Stress Cure” Ms. Shepherd gives us twelve chapters on the things that stress us the most. Each chapter ends with a “yielding prayer” that gets us focused off that particular problem and onto God. This is a book that you will refer back to again and again. A great resource!

Review from Rambles of a SAHM  Sep 30, 2014
Every once in a while a book comes along at just the right time. For me The Stress Cure arrived right in the midst of a situation that had me in knots. Once I picked the book up and started reading I began to realize that even though I had been praying about the situation with my mouth, my heart and mind remained detached.

From the beginning of the book Linda reminds us that stress comes in all shapes and forms. Not all stress is a big life-changing event. Sometimes it is several little things that just seem to build up. No matter what brings the stress on, it can certainly be changed by diligently conversing with the Father and allowing Him to speak peace into the situation.

I first became acquainted with Linda's work in her series The Potluck Club. She has brought her wonderful storytelling skills to this book to help you understand all the aspects of stress and how to deal with it. She uses Scripture for the basis but then fills in with her imagination to make the point.

We all have stress of one form or another. The Stress Cure is the answer to how we can manage that stress and live our lives in the peace and freedom that God intended for us. This is an encouraging read that will surely bring you into a closer relationship with the Father.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

Finding Your Peace  Sep 25, 2014
“We live in a world filled to the brim with advice, and when it comes to dealing with stress, there’s plenty of advice to go around. Sleep more, eat better, avoid this, seek out that. But more ideas about how to cope are not necessarily what we need if we’re stressed and anxious. What we need is a cure. The true remedy to stress, Linda Evans Shepherd says, is prayer.”

The Stress Cure – Praying Your Way to Personal Peace - is the third book that I have read by this author – Linda Evans Shepherd. Again… I was not disappointed. As with each of the other book I’ve read by her, I was blessed by this one as well.

She has an amazing gift to take the familiar bibles characters and stories that we all know and love and bring them to life right there on the pages. These wonderful bible stories, along with her own amazing life stories (which you will have to read the book to find out about) make her, in my opinion, an expert on matter of stress.

But as she says, the world would have us believe that if we just sleep more, eat better and exercise… then we would have less stress. To a point, that is true. However, in this book you will learn how to recognize God’s continual presence in your life and through going deeper into prayer that we can yield our stress to Him. And not just our stress, we can give Him all of our feelings of being Overwhelmed, Stuck, Frustrated, Burdened, Hopeless, Offended, Anxious, Negative, Distracted and Depressed. We can find that Peace That Surpasses All Understanding.

I am grateful to Ms. Shepherd for penning this book for such as time as this in my own life and helping me to “Yield to the Peace of the Holy Spirit” (page 36). I recommend this book, as well as the other’s I’ve read of hers, enough. She is a truly blessed and gifted writer.

Prayer is the Answer to Stress  Sep 22, 2014
“Today, I can tell you that when your heart is breaking, when you are feeling harassment or the pain of frustration, God wants to help. He wants you to place the weight of all that you’re carrying, all the pain that you’re feeling, into his loving hands, which undergird your own,” Linda Evans Shepherd compassionately writes in her book, "The Stress Cure: Praying Your Way to Personal Peace."

This two hundred and eight page paperback targets those looking for peace, contentment, and assurance dealing with stress in their daily lives. Using mainly the New International Version of the Bible, also the ESV, GNT, GW, KJV, TMG, NASB, NKVM, LNT, NLV, NRSV, and TLB are referenced along with quotes from Billy Graham, Max Lucado, Charles Stanley, and Sarah Young, to name a few. This reader wishes all pronouns of God were capitalized for reverence.

Everyone has stress; it is how we handle it that molds us and makes us who we are. In Shepherd’s book, she reiterates the need to focus and pray to God instead of concentrating on ourselves when facing a difficult situation.

After acknowledgements and an introduction that offers the eternal plan of salvation, twelve chapters discuss different problems and attitudes that hold us back, ending with a conclusion of finding God’s peace. Most chapters begin with the author’s experience regarding the topic, a discussion of how God can change it, and a Bible story rewritten in first person by one dealing with the subject. Chapters end with written out Bible verses, lines to fill in, and suggested prayers of confession, yielding, forgiving, casting the problem to the Almighty, healing, exchanging the enemy’s work for God’s peace, and praising Him.

Weaving memories of the writer’s salvation at ten years old, her young daughter’s debilitating accident, backpacking in Colorado, various pets and the fear of snakes, a potential New York pick-pocket, or finding a forgotten coin, stress is dissected into chapters on being overwhelmed, stuck, frustrated, burdened, hopeless, offending, anxious, negative, distracted, and depressed.

Imagined conversations of Biblical characters such as Sarah, Nabal, Caleb, Jonah, Shadrach, Mary, Jesus’s disciples, and Paul retell that the only true answer to overcoming stress is through prayer and being in the Word.

Often containing Shepherd’s personal stories, the book’s abundant concentration on prayer will change one’s perspective of the effects of damaging stress by letting go and letting God conquer it.

Thanks to Revell for furnishing this complimentary book in exchange for a review based on the reader’s opinion.
