"Excellent for Homeschool Use"
Outline Review The spiritual premise in The Purpose-Driven Life is that there are no accidents---God planned everything and everyone. Therefore, every human has a divine purpose, according to God's master plan. Like a twist on John F. Kennedy's famous inaugural address, this book could be summed up like this: "So my fellow Christians, ask not what God can do for your life plan, ask what your life can do for God's plan." Those who are looking for advice on finding one's calling through career choice, creative expression, or any form of self-discovery should go elsewhere. This is not about self-exploration; it is about purposeful devotion to a Christian God. The book is set up to be a 40-day immersion plan, recognizing that the Bible favors the number 40 as a "spiritually significant time," according to author Rick Warren, the founding pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, touted as one of the nation largest congregations. Warren's hope is that readers will "interact" with the 40 chapters, reading them one day at a time, with extensive underlining and writing in the margins. As an inspirational manifesto for creating a more worshipful, church-driven life, this book delivers. Every page is laden with references to scripture or dogma. But it does not do much to address the challenges of modern Christian living, with its competing material, professional, and financial distractions. Nonetheless, this is probably an excellent resource for devout Christians who crave a jumpstart back to worshipfulness. --Gail Hudson

 | Gotta save another one for Jesus! Jan 1, 2010 |
Mega Church owner operator Rick Warrens mess of a book. How this duped so many people I do not know. Especially when his main thesis is that every person should live a simplistic life like Jesus. Well I guess his compound in Lake Forest Orange County is simplistic. Making hundreds of millions well Jesus like. Forget building it in a poor area. Go for the rich citizens of Orange county. Why the money happens to be there so why not the church. And the residents of lake Forest Laguna Beach and other affluent areas will give alot more then the folks in Long Beach and Compton. BTW the people who need the help the most is not the rich guy from Laguna Beach who drives to church in his Ferrari. Rick Shamelessly tells the story of his father on his death bed uttering over and over I have to save another one for Jesus over and over. Well I wonder if on Ricks death bed if he mutters I gotta sell another book for my inheritance just one more book. If you preach that one should live like Jesus and you live like a friggen King your whole credibility is out the window. Sorry. Maybe he does some good things I have read a little about him but his main concern seems to be money point blank. If this book came from a small town priest who dedicated himself to his normal size flock(100 or so people) it would have been much better. Sorry Mr. Warren but 25,000 people at your church service WTF less people go to NFL games. So I am sure just like Jesus you take the time for each and every one of them. If anyone would like a copy of this book I will give you mine for free just pay me for shipment. | | | | Try the book... we can learn together Dec 30, 2009 |

| This book really digs deep to get at the true meaning of life, and it helped me to realize why we are hear and what is really important. | | | | Amazing! Dec 23, 2009 |
| During a stressful time in my life, which has included for me and my family, death, illness, jail time, this book helped me realize that there is more to this life than myself and my woes! Thank you for an amazing book! | | | | just a personal attitude book Dec 23, 2009 |
I have to say, sometime I am quite uncomfortable when I read this book. Partially agree with some parts but quite disagree with other parts. read bible more than three times, you will understand which part comes from his own idea and which part comes from the Bible. Why we must follow some "rules" to follow Jesus, yes, you are living for the Lord, not for others. | | | Write your own review about The Purpose Driven® Life: What on Earth Am I Here For?
