Item description for Going Rogue: An American Life by Sarah Palin...OverviewThe former governor of Alaska describes her life and political career, tracing her progress from small-town mayor to candidate for vice president and offering her personal view of the 2008 presidential campaign. Publishers DescriptionOn September 3, 2008, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin gave a speech at the Republican National Convention that electrified the nation and instantly made her one of the most recognizable women in the world. As chief executive of America's largest state, she had built a record as a reformer who cast aside politics-as-usual and pushed through changes other politicians only talk about: Energy independence. Ethics reform. And the biggest private sector infrastructure project in U.S. history. While revitalizing public-school funding and ensuring the state met its responsibilities to seniors and Alaska Native populations, Palin also beat the political "good ol' boys club" at their own game and brought Big Oil to heel. In this eagerly anticipated memoir, Palin paints an intimate portrait of growing up in the wilds of Alaska, meeting her lifelong love, her decision to enter politics, the importance of faith and family, and the unique joys and trials of life as a high-profile working mother. She also opens up for the first time about the 2008 presidential race, providing a rare mom's-eye view of high-stakes national politics--from patriots dedicated to "Country First" to slick politicos bent on winning at any cost. Going Rogue traces one ordinary citizen's extraordinary journey, and imparts Palin's vision of a way forward for America and her unfailing hope in the greatest nation on earth.

 | Sarah Palin Inspires Jun 10, 2010 |
I just returned from a 7-day cruise to Alaska, and was lucky enough to find this book in the ship's library. It was very fun to be cruising through Juneau, reading her book, and seeing her former residence. I was blown away by what I didn't know about Sarah, and I was left with a feeling like I truly knew her and her family well enough to almost be a part of her family. Palin is a bonafide feminist, and is redefining modern politics. As a former Hillary supporter, I find Palin to be far more of what I am looking for in a female leader, and am baffled by the leftist feminist attacks on her. I never cease to be amazed at her resilience and complete disregard for deceitful media. This woman is undeniably self-made, and proud.
I admired Sarah before reading her book; now I feel almost a kinship, as if she is a good friend.
Regardless of your politics, Going Rogue is a highly worthwhile read. | | | | Rogue Jun 8, 2010 |
Great book, allows the reader to get to know the person in a more intimate way. I could not put it down. She is a very well written author. READ THE BOOK Great name- Going Rogue seems like a bad thing when you are only standing up for your values that this country was based on. One Nation Under GOD! With Liberty and Justice FOR ALL!!! Get It! | | | | HooRay for Going Rogue Jun 4, 2010 |
| Sarah Palin is no ditzy gal! She's got common sense and political gut smarts. I'll take extra common sense to pie-in-the-sky intellectualism. She not only knows how to put her political and governing shoes on, but also how to walk in them. This auto-biographical account of her personal and political life pulls no punches. What was also beneficial and enlightening were the accounts of the way her political advisors "handled" her. Or should I say, "manhandled her." They were concerned with the externals. Her wave-length were the internals. They just were determined not to let her be herself. She was herself anyway. And the response she received from the crowds, up to 20,000+ people in Florida's Villages alone, were her best recommendations. And if she ever ran our country the way she ran Alaska..........what a political revolution that would be. | | | | Learning about Alaska Jun 1, 2010 |
I enjoyed reading Sarah's book because I felt it did a good job of sharing a bit about her family, their background, and most importantly about why her parents moved to Alaska and what that was like for young children.
I know that many people will want to see this more as a political voice about Governor Palin's life, but I enjoyed it for the things it taught me about Alaska. About what it would be like for a child to grow up there. What it is like for someone to try and make a living. Also it was interesting to hear about the Governor's office and how laid back life at the office was. I'm from California and I sometimes think we put to much awe upon our Governors. Sure we were a big state and they did good work, but what about smaller states. The issue is more about the persons values than the size of the state they run.
I enjoyed the read. I admit I didn't read this to learn more about the Republican party or more about Governor Palin and her stand on issues. I think it gave her a platform to state what she thinks, but I more enjoyed the personal background about what it was like to raise a family in the wilds of Alaska.
I'm sure that others will like or hate the book because of the political issues. I just tried to keep those in balance while I read.
Enjoy! | | | | Politics for the Future May 29, 2010 |
