Item description for The Blind Side: Evolution Of A Game by Michael Lewis...

In football, as in life, the value we place on people changes with the rules of the games they play...
When we first meet the young man at the center of this extraordinary and moving story, he is one of thirteen children by a mother addicted to crack; he does not know his real name, his father, his birthday, or any of the things a child might learn in school. And he has no serious experience playing organized football.

What changes? He takes up football, and school, after a rich, Evangelical, Republican family plucks him from the mean streets. Their love is the first great force that alters the world's perception of the boy, whom they adopt. The second force is the evolution of professional football itself.

In The Blind Side, Lewis shows us a largely unanalyzed but inexorable trend in football working its way down from the pros to the high school game, where it collides with the life of a single young man to produce a narrative of great and surprising power.

Additional Information
Oscar Winner Sandra Bullock takes the proverbial ball and runs with Leigh Anne Tuohy, the honey blond spitfire of a well-to-do Southern wife and mother who takes in a homeless black teenager in The Blind Side [Blue-ray]. Read the book, AND see the movie!

Reviews - What do customers think about The Blind Side: Evolution Of A Game?

This book may not be what you think it is  Jan 8, 2010
I enjoyed Michael Lewis' The Blind Side, but not for the reasons I had expected. First of all, it's not just a heartwarming vehicle for a Sandra Bullock Oscar. It's really partly about the metamorphosis of certain positions in football's offensive and defensive lines, partly about the struggle to find a process for integrating an underachieving, socially vacuous, but physically imposing poor kid into the upper echelons of the Memphis private education system, and the fine lines of perception between help and charity and self-serving motivations.

Put it all together and its an excellent read, but not one that will appeal to every reader. Especially with the expectations that have been set by the release of the movie.

Not what you think it is going to be  Jan 7, 2010
Like many people who got this book, I had heard of Micheal's story, and watched The Blind Side in the movie theater. I wrongly assumed this book would be a more in depth version of his experiences with the family, his history, and basically expected a biography.
What the book is is completely different. It's a play by play rambling football history, with his story mixed in.
Personally, I hate reading about football. I skipped complete chapters after skim reading, because it was just completely irrelevant. I don't need to be told the complete history of the position of Left Defense just because it pertains to Micheal's football career.
This book is poorly edited, poorly written, and disappointing. I was also not a fan of the gay bashing, or the bashing of other religious viewpoints than Southern Baptist Evangelical.
There are numerous sentences that allude to something being wrong with gay people, and when they talk about Micheal finishing up his courses at BYU online, Sean is quoted as "The Mormons are going to Hell, but they sure are nice people."

I find it interesting that the author makes SUCH a huge deal out of racism, but has no problem inserting in other inflammatory speech.

This was quite possibly the most boring "biography" I've ever read in my life. Half of it could have been taken out and no one would even care. I also found the book to be offensive rather than uplifting.

A nice read  Jan 3, 2010
Great story that I felt could of been told a little better. Though I was not fully satisfied after finishing the book, I still really enjoyed reading it. The book provided a little more insight to NFL stats, figures, and history than I cared to read about but overall I would suggest this book to any football fan.

Southern Hospitality at its Best  Jan 3, 2010
Michael Lewis did an excellent job of showing us how an act of kindness can make a major difference in the life of an individual. The story of Michael Oher and the Tohey family should be an example for all of us. We should all do what we can to help the less fortunate. Especially someone like Michael who is willing to work hard to improve his station in life. He only needed a hand up not a hand out.

I got bored.......  Jan 1, 2010
I was given this book by someone who is very into football. I like and watch football, but I really wanted to know about Michael and the family who took him in. To me it was disjointed ---- I have mixed feelings about the family who took him in and how pure were their motives. I guess the quickest way to say it is that I was disappointed. Maybe Sandra Bullock will help and I'll like the movie better.
