 | Can Cannibals be funny? Feb 18, 2011 |
The final book for the Dream House Kings series is wonderful! The beginning chapter will have you hooked. It will pull you into a world of time travel, danger and much more. Xander, David, Toria, Keal, and Ed are still looking for Gee, the Kings’ children’s mother and Ed’s wife. They are trying to be safe while they search for her, but the house has other things in mind. Danger is in every portal, and Taksidians and Phemus sure aren’t helping them out. Will they be able to ever find her? This book is just too good! I read it in 9 hours, which is the closest to a straight read I have ever done. It was thrilling, nerve racking, everything I want in a book. Frenzy even had a strange sense of humor that had me laughing in the middle of the book. Things like shampoo, movie stars, and Cannibals for dinner guest. But Frenzy also had moments where Robert Liparulo slowed down the story line and showed us things like, pain, family, growing up, caring, and Christ. Now this book is based off the idea of time travel, I for one like seeing different views on time travel. Robert Liparulo did a wonderful job of explaining his version of it, yet not having it so in-depth that it got over bearing to the plot. The character development of the Kings was wonderful. Ed, Toria, David, Xander all learned what a family should be like and grew up though the books. Taksidian is also darker then Darth Vader, more cunning then Saint Dane (Pendragon), and as slippery a snake. He is one of the best villains I have ever read about. Frenzy is great for all ages, it is a epic story by an author who continues to wow me. I will leave you with this thought, “Nothing’s impossible here” -David King | | | | Wonderful! Jun 8, 2010 |
| Wonderful book! I read most of it in one day, which is hard to do with a baby in the house. I originally bought the series for my 15 year old son, but I picked it up and couldn't put it down! In some ways, I wish it were more "tied up" at the end, but in other ways, I'm really looking forward to more of the King family adventures. | | | | Superb Conclusion to the Dreamhouse Kings! Jun 3, 2010 |
After finally pinning down a copy of Frenzy, I couldn't wait to dive in. Of course, all the usual hesitation was in place. You know how it is--you're reading a series and it's been stellar. . .but this last book, will it ruin the experience, make you want to hug a toilet instead of the author?
Never fear--no porcelain thrones among these Kings! FRENZY ROCKS! Despite my reticence to read the final installment (I hate goodbyes), the book is the perfect conclusion to the Dreamhouse Kings--and in my opinion, it is the absolute best of the six books! I thoroughly enjoyed how the family pulled together in this final installment. As the ending drew close, I was thrilled with one piece of history they experienced, but I was also sad knowing the series had come to a beautiful end (well, sort of, mostly. . .check out Liparulo's site (his newsletter, to be exact) for an explanation). Long live the Kings! :-)

The Dreamhouse Kings saga has reached its climax in Frenzy.
I have enjoyed this series since the beginning. It had a feelings of Lostian answers that create questions and a story arc that is sweeping in grandeur.
Having read Liparulo's adult fiction, I think he has a fantastic grasp of Young Adult novel writing and how attracts the attention of people all over the age spectrum.
These books aren't just for teenagers, adults love them just as much and will get almost the same thing out of reading them.
Frenzy closes the first major storyline in the saga of the King family. (Liparulo has stated that there will be further adventures in the house) From the first book, the King mother was kidnapped and taken into a doorway that led to another time and place. With each book that followed, the King family entered these special doorways in order to find and rescue their mother.
Along the way, they make discoveries about themselves and as a family and how they are tied to this bizarre house.
These books are like potato chips: you can't read just one and be done. There is absolutely no way that if you start reading this series, you will not finish.
Start with House of Dark Shadows and become family friends with The Dreamhouse Kings.

I gasped at the end of chapter two in FRENZY, book six in the DREAMHOUSE KINGS series by Robert Liparulo. A friend nearby looked up and asked me what was wrong, and I could only reply, "Those were the most intense first two chapters I have ever read in any book ever." The action had begun, and it didn't let up until I finished the book later the next day. It's sometimes hard to keep the momentum of an amazing series going, but what Liparulo finishes off with here is definitely that: an astounding work of fiction.
The plot continues straight away from book five, WHIRLWIND, and if newcomers pick up this book -- it's best to wait and go back to book number one, THE HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS, in order to pick up on everything and follow along. That said, the suspense just keeps building as Xander and David keep searching for their mother, battle against the evil forces trying to ruin the very future of humanity, and stay alive in the many time periods the house flings them into. From the ancient world to cannibalistic jungles, just when you think the brothers have been everywhere they could have gone, Liparulo takes them to increasing harsher locales and time periods. And it all speeds straight toward the end, when questions will be answered, lives will be lost, and everything becomes exactly what it doesn't seem to truly be.
The writing continues to be crisp and the book moves along swiftly, and at times it can seem that there can't be much more that could really happen to the King family, but Liparulo pulls out all the stops here as the final rush to the end of the series takes place. And readers that have been following along won't be disappointed at all: the ending gives a tremendous payoff, with the promise of a possible new series to boot.
All said, FRENZY is fiction at its finest -- exactly what a novel should be: incredible, action-filled, and yet touching at the connections of family: and what makes that bond truly so great. FRENZY is not to be missed. | | | | Some Mixed Feelings May 26, 2010 |
Frenzy represents the finale (or not?) in Robert Liparulo's exciting six-book series for young-adults, the Dreamhouse Kings. I have truly loved reading through Liparulo's series, and it's one of the best series for young adults that I've read (my little brother has really enjoyed reading it too!)
If you've been reading my blog, you've likely spotted some reviews for other titles in the series (I've reviewed all of the previous five.) And as a result, you may be familiar with the general plot. The King family lives in a mysterious home that houses portals to different periods in history - both in time and space. After losing their mother through the malicious intervention of Taksidian and his massive time-traveling crony, Phemus, the King's have been trying to find Mom while struggling to survive Taksidian's increasingly malevolent attacks.
However, I have some mixed feelings about this final installment. In some ways it was deeply satisfying and brought tears to my eyes. In other ways, I was disappointed to find that not all of the loose strings were tied up with this finale. Many of the unanswered questions from previous books were explained more thoroughly in an interview at book's end, but it still wasn't as deeply satisfying as finding the answers for yourself within the text of the book.
Liparulo does plan further adventures for the King's, so perhaps this is the reason he sort of left us hanging (he says life doesn't have clean and clear endings - but this is fiction!), but I do feel somewhat conflicted because I loved the series, and I did find the finale somewhat disappointing. It's hard to pull off a moving, convincing, and pat finale while maintaining tension etc. and I have to admit this won't be the first time a finale's been a bit of a let down.
I won't say anymore, or I'd be sharing spoilers for those who haven't read previous books, or this one! | | | Write your own review about Frenzy (Dreamhouse Kings V6)
