Reviews - What do customers think about All in Good Time, Gilded Legacy Series #2?

Good Christian Historical Romance  May 5, 2017
All in Good Time is a historical Christian romance written by Maureen Lang. The story is based in the late 1800's in Colorado. AS a young man Henry Hawkins single highhandedly robbed stagecoaches. His goal was to get enough money to make a good life. He is now the most successful banker in Denver. In his employ is his uncle Tobias.
Before Dessa's friend past away she had a dream of opening a home for prostitutes who wanted to turn their lives around. Now Dessa Caldwell wants to fulfill that dream. She has gotten donations from churches and stores but still needs a substantial amount to buy the house. She met with Tobias to get the loan. Tobias convinces Henry to give her the loan. Dessa gets the house cleaned up quickly but does not get any girls to come. The original plan was to have the girls that came to the house make items that could be sold to help pay expenses. Dessa was forced to seek out other ways to finance the home.
This is a good historical Christian romance story. The author gives the background to the characters as she introduces them to make them easy to follow. The story is slower moving and allows Henry's faith to grow and the friendship between Henry and Dessa to develop over time.
The part of the story that I enjoyed the most is how the church and community came together to help Dessa establish Pierson House. I think anyone who enjoys reading historical romances will enjoy this story.

Story of forgiveness  Oct 27, 2014
This is a really good story set in 1880's Denver, Colorado. To me, more than anything, it is a story of forgiveness--not only in the usual sense of forgiving others, but in the sometimes magnanimous effort of forgiving oneself.

There are many interesting social issues that play into the story, which add a richness and depth that keep the reader engaged. The glaring issue is prostitution and lack of opportunity for woman, in which the author gives the reader interesting background information concerning the illegal trafficking of minors over a hundred years ago.

Dessa, the main female character, obviously has a love for God and for her mission in life, but her lack of foresight and naïveté push her into awkward and sometimes dangerous situations. This propensity seems to bring out the best in her suitors, as they vie for the privilege of not only protecting her, but rescuing her.

This is a very satisfying story. It is good to see many of the characters make positive changes in their lives.

Slip into the late 1800s  Jul 15, 2014
In All In Good Time, by Maureen Lang, Dessa wishes to open a women’s shelter—particularly for former prostitutes. The problem lies with her need for money. The owner of the bank, Henry Hawkins, isn't exactly willing because, selfishly, he doesn’t see how he serves to profit. Needless to say, these two ‘duke it out’ so to speak…

I enjoyed the tension in this book, and how each character developed. Their personalities shine from the start, but they grow throughout and their dividing lines begin to blur. The story started out a little slow but the pace soon steadied out and, in the end, I enjoyed the way everything fell into place. The pages are full of imagery, and the author obviously researched Colorado and the history of the 1880s time period. I learned a lot and feel as if I’ve been there. (Always a good thing!) I love the cover art and the discussion questions in the back of the book. I've added another author to my growing list of good'uns. ;)

Late 1800  Jul 21, 2013
“Sometimes we allow ourselves to do desperate things if we don’t trust God to take care of us,” Dessa explains in a Gilded Legacy novel titled "All in Good Time" by Maureen Lang.
At three hundred and sixty-seven pages, this paperback book has no profanity and is geared toward Christian women but may not be acceptable for young naïve pre-teenagers as it discusses prostitution, gambling and alcoholism.
Set in the late eighteen hundreds, Lang weaves a tale about Dessa Caldwell, a young twenty-something year old women who comes to Denver, Colorado in hopes to start the Pierson House, a shelter for women who want to get away from the “sporting” trade. After procuring funding from local churches and friends, she approaches a well-known bank so she can buy a house located in a questionable district where prostitution, gambling, and opium dens abound. Aloof and unsocial bank owner Henry Hawkins wants no part in the obviously unprofitable project, but his associate uncle gives her the needed monies anyway. With Hawkins own secretive past and Dessa’s true upbringing, the two butt heads at every corner trying to get women to come to the refuge and turn from their unsavory past.
When local concert hall owner Tuck Foster meets compassionate, genuine Dessa, his motives to help her adjust to the community are questioned, especially since he has intentions to run for state senator. When Hawkins learns of Foster’s interest in Dessa, he has to come to terms with his growing fondness for the beautiful, captivating and spiritual woman. However, with Dessa’s spontaneous attitude, she gets herself involved in an issue that could throw the town into turmoil again and has to rely on both men’s aid and assistance, while dealing with her own dark past.
With a slow, methodical start, the book picks up momentum and turns into a page turner at the end. Will Dessa learn to trust God completely, knowing “that the testing of your faith produces patience” as James 1:2-3 NKJV states at the beginning of this historical romantic fiction? Will Hawkins come clean and open his heart again to others? Will Foster realize he needs more than connections and money to reach his goal? This tome by an award-winning author gives us a reminder that God is in control and has His perfect timing in all things.
