Item description for Exploring Creation With Astronomy (Young Explorers) by Jeannie Fulbright... This wonderful book uses the classical and Charlotte Mason methodology to give elementary school students an introduction to our solar system and the universe that contains it. Narration and notebooking are used to encourage critical thinking, logical ordering, retention, and record keeping. Each lesson in the book is organized with a narrative, some notebook work, an activity, and a project. The activities and projects use easy-to-find household items and truly make the lessons come alive! They include making a solar eclipse, making craters like those found on Mercury, simulating the use of radar to determine hidden landscape, keeping track of the phases of the moon, making a telescope, making fog, and making an astrometer to measure the brightness of a star. Although designed to be read by the parent to elementary students of various grade levels, it is possible for students with a 4th-grade reading level to read this book on their own. Grades K-6.

Reviews - What do customers think about Exploring Creation With Astronomy (Young Explorers)?
 | Excellent and Easy to Use Jul 31, 2007 |
Exploring Creation with Astronomy is an excellent text book crammed full of information and it is easy to use. Each chapter is divided into sections that are short enough to cover in even 15 minutes. Depending on the amount of time I had to teach science on a particular day, I could cover as many sections as I wanted and have a good stopping point at the end of each time. The information packed into this text book is amazing, especially for grade school age children. It is complex and yet my 8 and 10 year old children were able to understand it and later explain what they had learned. Thermonuclear fusion, magnetosphere, meteoroids, asteroids and comets were some of the things that my children were able to discuss in detail even months after having learned about it from this book. There are online sources available with this book where we were able to see more of the things mentioned in the book. The book has a lot of photos and diagrams which really help make the book useable for grade school students. Throughout the year each of my children kept their own notebook of notes and diagrams on each chapter. I think that really cemented all the facts in their minds. The one problem I had with the book was the introduction. The student in the introduction, I believe in an effort to be politically correct, kept changing gender. Initially referred to as "he" in the next paragraph would become a "she" and then switch back to "he". I found that distracting but thankfully it did not continue in the chapter text. | | | | Great Science Text Dec 4, 2006 |
| I am using this book with my children who are 10, 9 and 6. They love the photos and conversational writing style. We also purchased the kit from Creation Sensation and it make doing the experiments much more convenient. I am sure other books by the author are wonderful as well. | | | | We loved this book! Aug 8, 2006 |
My son loved this book. He learned so much because not only is it written in a speakable way, it includes great projects that really help sear things into his memory.
We had so much fun with all the projects and experiments. They used your basic household items or items that were EASY to get at Walmart. The results were fantastic.
We are about to start one of Jeannie's other books called Zoology 1 and I know we will enjoy it just as much. | | | | Review from a homeschooling mom of 6 six years Aug 5, 2006 |
I will start with a confession - I am not a "science mom". I do not like messy experiments. I do not like to gather 42 tiny items to do something that is over in 90 seconds. I do not like paper mache. But most of all- I do not like textbooks. In our house, a science textbook is suitable only for bathroom reading or as a cure for insomnia. The first time I picked up this book however, I was in love. The text is vivid and well written. The projects are fun and EASY!
If you join me in being a non science mom, I stronly recommend ordering the kit that goes with this course from Home Science Tools. It costs less than $30 and has every single little thing for every project. You will not have to rumage for or purchase anything. When it's time to do your project there will be no frantic trip to Walmart. Relax mom, it's all here : )
We are creating an Astronomy Notebook as the book recommends. My son puts pictures, drawings, and written information in his notebook. He is really enjoying adding to it and loves to show it to company.
One of my favorite quotes is "Education is not the filling of a bucket. It is the lighting of a fire." I know this astronomy study is not just filling his head with knowledge of space. Rather, it is lighting a fire in him for learning about our world. It is inspiring him to create his best work and to read more independant of his "school work" on the topics we've studied.
I will definately be using the other books in this series!
Blessings on you and your homeschool!

| My son (7) and I both learned so much from this wonderful book! Each chapter has easy projects which children love and assignments that are fun, yet they reinforce what was learned. (There is a list at the beginning of the book of all the supplies you will need. It made planning so easy!) Each chapter also has a section called What Do You Remember that has questions to see what your child learned and what might need to be reviewed. There is a course website with additional information for those who want to learn more. This information is a great addition! This is not a boring science text, but a living book that is hard to put down! | | | Write your own review about Exploring Creation With Astronomy (Young Explorers)
