Reviews - What do customers think about CrossFire: A Novel?

Frightening, but realistic  Mar 3, 2009
All Things
"Crossfire" was a real thriller...frightening, but realistic, given the news we are currently hearing about the countries south of the border. It was interesting that Mrs. Windle had her protagonist falling for a man other than her husband. This is not unrealistic, because as fallen creatures we are open to all sins common among the human race. The main thrust of the book is that God is in control, even when we can't see the end. Her descriptions of the South American jungles and mountains are picturesque and put the reader in the middle of the geography. This is a definite re-read.

Can't wait to read more by Windle!  Aug 9, 2008
I've never written a review before but this book deserves it! From page one I was engrossed in this fascinating story that's also educational about a little-known but serious drug war in Latin America. I found myself sympothizing with the characters and dreaded this adventure in reading coming to an end. Unlike any other work of fiction I've read, I found myself caring enough to pray for the real situation and country this story introduced me to. I hope Jeanette Windle writes many more like it. I just ordered the sequel!

Very hard to put down  Dec 14, 2007
At the beginning, I found Sara's naivete annoying. Then again, she was in college and I am almost 40. With patience and perseverence past her innocence and I actually found myself unable to put this book down. This rarely happens and I am very critical. :-) The writing was easy and not exactly awe-inspiring - but the story was interesting enough to keep me engaged until the end. Gosh darn - I only wish I could find my own Doug Bradford! ;-)

Slow, not fast enough  Jul 6, 2007
Crossfire has an ingenius plot, very interesting. A young lady, Sara, is unexpectedly swept into a whirl of emotions for a man, Nicolas, she's only known for three weeks. The impromptu marriage proposal on Nicolas's part causes you to doubt already Sara's positive answer. She is whisked off to Bolivia after their quick wedding, and there she is caught in a whirlwind of events. Sara finally finds out her husband is involved in drug business, and feels betrayed, but at the same time guilty. She realizes how unmoral her husband is and regrets her decision to marry him. Her life is almost taken numerous times, but manages to escape under God's protection. Sara is forced to enlist the aid of DEA agent, Doug Bradford with a past of his own. This is where I disagree. Sara is married and she's looking for Doug as a friend. Something is wrong. Well her husband becomes dead at an attempt to save her life from his father. So now she's free to marry whom she wants, but that's saved for the next book, Firestorm. The reason I rated it so low was because it was written very feminine, which is understandable, but very unnecessarily descriptive. You always want to shout sense into Sara, frustrated at her actions of stupidity. And her longing to become friends with Doug when she is a married woman. Overall the plot was interesting, but could've been better written.

Crossfire  Jul 4, 2007
This is a good read even though it is a long book. A friend who lives in Bolivia feels that it is a very accurate book. This book deals with the cocaine business that permeates life in Bolivia. Recommend.
