Reviews - What do customers think about Trapped (Private Justice V2)?

An exciting, suspensful ride with wonderful romance.  Dec 22, 2013
Wow! I am so impressed with this book. And let me start off by saying that I have not read the first book in this series, Vanished, and had absolutely no problem at all following this story.

The author did a great job of writing an extremely suspenseful story, full of interesting characters. I loved the dynamic between Dev and Laura, as they fought the attraction they were feeling toward each other. Dev is the Private Investigator that Laura has hired to find her runaway half-sister, Darcy. I appreciated the author’s ability to make me understand, through hearing Darcy’s thoughts throughout her portions of the story, what her motivation had been to run away from home. I was able to feel empathy toward Dev, Laura and Darcy in the various situations they faced.

And might I add that the author did a great job of creating a well-developed villain. At one point I turned to my husband and said, “Uh oh…this guy’s about to show us his ‘crazy’.” She crafted a truly messed up human being with all kinds of issues.

This story kept me turning the page, wanting more till the very end. I now look forward to going back and reading the first book in the series, as well as this author’s other books. Trapped was the first book that I have read by Irene Hannon and it will not be the last!

I received a complimentary copy of Trapped from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review, which I have given.

Action, Suspense, Murder, Runaway  Oct 31, 2013
When Darcy's father dies, she has no one to go to but her older sister. Due to her parents' health problems she had been allowed to run free. Suddenly she has rules to follow and she runs away. Laura reports her sister leaving to the police. However, a blizzard has hit the city, 16 yr old runaways aren't their biggest concern. Laura hires a PI to help locate her sister. The clues they find don't find Darcy. She met up with a girl on the streets and both disappear. It doesn't take long for Dev to have that feeling that a lot more is wrong that a runaway sixteen year old. The secondary characters are interesting and if you read any other books by Irene you get to say "hi" to old friends. I started reading Irene Hannon's books about three years ago and I've never been disappointed in any of her books. I bought this book through my local bookstore and no one has asked me to leave a review. This review is my honest opinion. Its a page turner and catches your imagination in the first couple of pages.

Fast-paced, chilling thriller!  Oct 15, 2013
Sharing my thoughts~Besides strong main characters, this book also has multidimensional secondary characters, and I especially enjoyed the camaraderie between the three PI's and Nikki, the office manager. I also feel like I got to know Darcy as well as Dev and Laura. After Darcy's free-spirited mother died, and then her elderly father, Darcy moved in with Laura, who didn't know anything about raising a teen. Stifled by Laura's old-fashioned rules and feeling responsible for her father's death, Darcy runs away, headed towards Chicago, but a storm grounds her in St. Louis. Little clips showing Darcy's transformation from obnoxious to grateful as the story unfolded helped me better understood her motivation.

"Even if Laura's intentions were good, rules were for kids. If she had stayed, they'd keep clashing, just as she and her dad had. And look how that had ended."

At one point in the book (not giving away any spoilers here!), I felt Laura acted irrationally for the danger she was in, but since she was worried about her sister, I decided to cut her some slack. If I'd been faced with a similar predicament, I probably would have rushed into the same situation. How many times have I made spur-of-the-moment decisions and then regretted them later?

What a fast-paced, chilling thriller made even more frightening because it's something that happens in real life! We inherently trust people because they look "safe" or because of their occupation. Scary! I picked up Trapped one evening while my husband was gone, and at times, my palms were sweating and my heart pounded with fear, but did that stop me from reading? Noooo. I just had to keep reading because with every page I flipped, the situation was too intense to put the book down. While the plot moved along at extreme speed, I felt the romance was a bit on the lean side, only really heating up at the end of the book, but I guess that's to be expected with the amount of action in this one. The faith thread was a gentle strand, weaved subtly through the book.

Trapped is the second book in the Private Justice series, but can be read as a stand alone. I just don't recommend reading it alone. I'm still turning on lights and checking doors. :)

Disclosure: Sending a big thanks to NetGalley and Revell for providing me with an advance review copy. The opinions expressed in this review are my own, and I received no monetary compensation.

common plot with page turning twists and action  Sep 23, 2013
The plot is common. A teen runs away and gets into trouble. But Hannon adds enough action and interesting subplots that the book was a page turner.

Sixteen year old Darcy has just lost her remaining parent so she is forced to live with her older half-sister. Much to Darcy's dismay, her half-sister, Laura, aims to reign in the freedom she's had as her father was ailing. Convinced Laura doesn't like her and doesn't want her living with her, Darcy runs away. She doesn't get far, however, as a serious snow storm has shut down the buses. She and a wandering girl she meets end up in a homeless shelter. The girls are befriended by a man who volunteers there and invites them to his house. Within a few days, Darcy's friend has disappeared and Darcy is being held captive in the man's basement. Laura is beside herself and hires a PI firm to find Darcy.

So that is the plot. It is not that unusual but there is a twist as to why the man keeps Darcy trapped. His aim is not to harm her but to … well, you have to read the book. And there is a little bit of romance brewing between Laura and the PI. They both try to focus on finding Darcy, keeping their growing feelings in check. The end of the book is very suspenseful and will keep you turning pages.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

A Winter Storm, Search & Rescue and Romance  Sep 7, 2013
Irene Hannon in her new book “Trapped” Book Two in the Private Justice series published by Revell Books takes us into the lives of Laura Griffith and James Devlin

From the back cover: A runaway teen, a desperate sister, and an intrepid PI determined to discover the truth

When Laura Griffith’s sixteen-year-old sister disappears on a frigid February day, leaving only a brief note behind, Laura resolves to do whatever it takes to track down the runaway teen. That includes recruiting ATF agent turned private investigator James Devlin to help. Dev knows time is of the essence with runaways–just forty-eight hours can mean the difference between recovery and ruin.

But the deeper he and Laura dig, the more Dev begins to suspect that something sinister is at work in the girl’s disappearance. And in the icy winter weather, the trail is going cold . . .

In her latest thrilling read, queen of romantic suspense Irene Hannon outdoes herself with a fast-paced tale of fear, deception, and just the right dose of romance.

Whenever I see Irene Hannon’s name on a book I know that I am in for a very exciting read. And with “Trapped” I think she far outshines in the excitement category. I think this is Ms. Hannon’s best work so far, she just keeps getting better and better. As soon as you say search and rescue to me the story takes on a new level of danger. The search is on to find Laura’s sister and finding her is not going to be easy especially with the storm coming. All of the characters are so well written you begin to think that you have known them all your life and you certainly want them to succeed. With “Trapped” Ms. Hannon has given us a thriller that becomes more and more exciting until the last hundred pages which is an extremely wild ride. All I can say is imagine going on a roller coaster; the beginning of the ride is calm until you get to the top and experience that first drop then it is nothing but twists, turns, upside down loops until the ride ends. This is what Ms. Hannon does to us as readers with this book.

This is a fun read, it is a fast read, however I do not recommend starting this book late at night because it will cost you sleep as you will not want to put it down. Ms. Hannon is an excellent writer and knows how to twist your nerve endings as she tightens the suspense. I recommend this book, and everything else that Ms. Hannon has written, highly!!

Trapped by Irene Hannon  Sep 3, 2013
How stimulating a story with the main characters continuing in this novel from the first titled Vanished! Plus there is a sneak peek at the third installment coming next summer titled, Deceived! The main characters of Nikki, Conner, Cal and Dev who all work for their own private investigating company remain as a team as they tackle another case.
At first glance it appears that Laura’s half-sister Darcy has run away, but with a blizzard quickly shutting down the town Laura hopes to find her soon. Through an amazing amount of tenacity along with a plethora of trials, Darcy still isn’t found but Laura and Devlin might be falling in love. However, the rule at the detective agency is no dating clients, so now much to the chagrin of Dev he has to wait and see where the relationship might go. While looking for Darcy thus far has turned up no leads, there seems to be a period of waiting that tests even the strong of heart.
Mark is a director of a children’s day care, but is his appearance as a nice guy just a decoy? Mark is infatuated with redeeming young women in the hopes of salvation for himself. When his best laid plans start to unravel, does he become the prime suspect or is there an unknown character in the shadows? Faith works for Mark in the front office; she has a crush on him until her one unexpected visit finds him in questionable company.
Irene Hannon has written a masterpiece of suspense, thrills and romance. The author shows her exemplary skills with each page turning adventure. For me, reading Vanished helped me have the background of the characters in the story before reading Trapped. I don’t know if a person can read one without the other. What I can say is that you will miss a suspenseful tale with riveting action if you don’t read Vanished.
One of the best parts of the novel is the realism drawn into the characters that make up the novel. Though they are fictional in nature, their thoughts and actions seem very lifelike. The struggle with faith or the strength of faith is one of the differences in a couple of the players. No reader will be bored when reading the series, especially with the third book due out in under a year. Grab both Vanished and Trapped then prepare to get entangled in the threads of a well woven masterpiece!
