At first I was a bit apprehensive at buying this flag because I had heard rumors that such a flag with golden trim was unfit to have. That such a flag had military tradition associated with it, not to mention even more nefarious meanings.
However, I'm glad to report that all such claims are BUNK! I've read up on the subject matter and wanted to clear up any issues people might have with buying such a flag: "Gold fringe is used on the National flag as an honorable enrichment only. It is not regarded as an integral part of the flag and its use does not constitute an unauthorized addition to the design prescribed by statutes." This statement is based on an opinion issued by the Attorney General in 1925...
So if anyone like me was a little put off because of such rumors that the flag is not supposed to have such frills is bunk & rumor. That's all.. This flag looks nice on my deck, however, I do have to say it should be for indoor use/parade use because of the frill dulling up a bit due to the forces of nature & just does not look as good.
