Overview
Bess Riehl is preparing Rose Hill Farm for her Christmas wedding, but her groom isn't who she thought it would be. Billy Lapp is far away from his Amish roots working as a rose rustler for Penn State and wants nothing to do with Stoney Ridge, his family, or Bess. And that suits Bess just fine. Why should she think twice about a man who left without a word, without any explanation? It's time she moved on with her life, and that meant saying yes to Amos Lapp, Billy's cousin and best friend. But as Bess and Amos's wedding day draws near, her emotions tangle into a tight knot. She loves Amos. Yet she can't forget Billy.

When a "lost" rose is discovered at Rose Hill Farm, Billy is sent to track down its origins. Get in, identify the rose, and get out. That's his plan. The only catch is that he's having a hard time narrowing down the identity of the lost rose, and he can't get those tropical blue eyes of Bess Riehl out of his mind.

As the history of the lost rose is pieced together, it reminds Bess and Billy--and Amos, too--that Christmas truly is the season of miracles.

Reviews - What do customers think about Christmas At Rose Hill Farm?

A sweet, memorable love story  Dec 11, 2014
Even now, years later, she couldn’t go into the greenhouse without being aware of Billy’s influence on Rose Hill Farm.

Christmas at Rose Hill Farm is an Amish love story, stitched together with threads of forgiveness, trust, and reconciliation.

Bess Riehl is about to marry Amos Lapp. But memories of Billy Lapp, (Amos’s cousin) won’t leave her alone. He left Stoney Ridge—and her—without any explanation, so he made his choice. She brooded over him for long enough and must move on with her life. After all, Amos loves her. And she loves him. So why not marry him?

The answer? Because no matter how she tries to leave Billy in the past, he keeps creeping into her mind. Her wedding is quickly approaching and, to make matters worse, Billy, a rose expert, is sent to Stoney Ridge to identify an unknown rose that is yet to bloom in the Riehl’s greenhouse. Needless to say, that complicates things.

With lovable characters, lively scenes, and a timeless message, this book will surely entertain you and put you in the Christmas spirit. The theme of forgiveness is the intertwined seamlessly and the story leaves a lasting effect.

I don’t normally read Amish novels, but I love a well-written love story that defies all odds. Especially when it also shares a message showing how God positions people, hurdles, and events in our paths to pave the way for our intended course. And having gorgeous cover art that grabs my attention doesn’t hurt either. ;)

Christmas at Rose Hill Farm is a short, sweet, and heartwarming read. Recommended for anyone who seeks a memorable love story.

First Lines: A pale thread of gray seeped over the windowsill, wakening Bess Riehl with its strange light. Outside a limb tapped the eaves. Disoriented, still fuzzy from sleep, she lifted her head to peer out the window and gasped in delight. Overnight, Stoney Ridge had been blanketed with deep snow, transformed into a world of pristine white.

Review from Rambles of a SAHM  Dec 2, 2014
Fans of Suzanne Woods Fisher's work are going to love this year's Christmas book. It is again set in Lancaster County and contains characters that we have come to know and love through some of her other series.

The main character is Bess Riehl who we first met in The Search (Lancaster County Secrets, Book 3). We meet up with Bess as she is busy planning her wedding to Amos Lapp. He isn't her first love, that would be Billy, but Billy is nowhere to be found and Bess is just trying to get on with her life.

When a mysterious variety of rose is found Bess and her family decide to try and find out its origins. They send for a rose expert and low and behold it winds up being the long lost Billy. Billy has secrets he's hiding and doesn't want to risk getting involved with Bess again. He wants to identify the rose and then leave. But of course God has other plans and sends the mysterious George to help guide Billy.

I loved this quick little novella. It was not only a great story of redemption and restoration it was also a very interesting lesson on the science of roses. It gave me a whole new appreciation for those planted around my house. Come spring I am going to definitely be wondering about the origins of my particular plants.

Another exciting little follow up to this book is that the story continues in the Stoney Ridge Seasons series. It is such a fun little peek into the lives of those familiar characters. This would make the perfect stocking stuffer for the book lover on your Christmas list.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

Well written with a few unexpected surprises...  Dec 1, 2014
SUMMARY:
Preparing for her Amish Christmas wedding at Rose Hill Farm , Bess Riehl soon receives a surprise she wasn’t expecting…she is engaged to Amos Lapp yet may still have feelings for Billy Lapp, Amos’ cousin who left the Amish community years earlier without any explanation. When a rare rose is discovered at Rose Hill Farm, Billy arrives to identify it with strong intentions to leave immediately; however, his heart may just have another purpose to pursue…
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Being unfamiliar with many of the characters from the Rose Hill Farm Amish community, I was still able to follow the story quite easily. In fact, I plan on returning to Rose Hill Farm now to meet the other neighbors in the community. Well written with a few unexpected surprises yet true to the Amish storyline, I enjoyed Christmas at Rose Hill Farm, particularly at this time of year. I especially found the cover to be very appealing, reminiscent of the story found within.
RATING:
4.5 (out of 5) pennies

Sweet and romantic  Nov 9, 2014
Bess is about to marry her friend Amos. But she's nervous and a little bit afraid. For some reason she can't get her first love Billy out of her mind. But Billy left years ago and she knows he's never coming back. A few weeks before the wedding Bess finds a very old rose bush in the greenhouse. Since she raises roses with her father it's rare that she finds one she doesn't recognize. So her father calls a rose rustler, someone who researches and finds heirloom roses. This man turns out to be her old love Billy. But he makes it very clear he's only here for the rose. Then he's leaving.

This was a fun little novella with touches of romance, drama, rose history, and a touch of the super-natural. I felt the author did a great job with character development for a novella. The story flowed well and was entertaining. The super-natural element that I mentioned was nicely done and while I guessed right away, added an interesting component.

I received this book free of charge from Revell Reads in exchange for my honest review.

A must read  Oct 31, 2014
Years ago Billy Lapp fled town, hurting and wondering if anyone truly loved or believed in him. Bess Riehl for years has carried the torch for him but has accepted he is not returning. Newly engaged and questioning her choice she prepares for her wedding. When a old rose is found at Rose Hill Farm’s she and her father turn to Penn State University for answers to it’s identity. Billy is the rose expert sent by the college. As they research and wait for the rose to bloom love is in the air.
I feel a little in love with the character George. The author kept me guessing to the very end about this hobo. Was he a hobo, a drifter or someone much, more important? He brought the element of faith alive. I enjoyed how he made the scriptures come alive with a new deeper understanding. Overall there was a feeling of that God is faithful even when we are not.
Quote: “ The rose. This elusive, mysterious rose. With a practiced eye, Bess gathered every detail about the rose, confidant that the same thoughts were being catalogued in Billy’s mind: class of Gallicas; a large, dramatic bloom of pink-mauve color, packed with petals; deeply fragrant. What couldn’t be described was why it was the most important rose in the world. This rose had brought Billy Lapp home.”
By far Christmas at Rose Hill Farm is my favorite novel by Suzanne Woods Fisher. It turned out to be so much more than a Christmas story. I highly recommend this 5 star book. The characters were well developed and thought out. There’s no way not to fill their pain and joy.
I want to give a high-five to the author Suzanne Woods Fisher and publisher Revell for bringing compelling Christian books that are entertaining and give hope to the reader with stories of faith. I was provided with this book in exchange for my honest review and I am so grateful for the authors and publishers generosity.

Christmas, Marriage, Roses and Romance  Sep 27, 2014
When a “lost” rose is discovered at Rose Hill Farm, Billy is sent to track down its origins. Get in, identify the rose, and get out. That’s his plan. The only catch is that he’s having a hard time narrowing down the identity of the lost rose, and he can’t get those tropical blue eyes of Bess Riehl out of his mind.

As the history of the lost rose is pieced together, it reminds Bess and Billy–and Amos, too–that Christmas truly is the season of miracles.

Join bestselling, award-winning author Suzanne Woods Fisher for an Amish Christmas to remember. Filled with heart-twisting moments amid the sweet anticipation of love, this story will charm readers into the holiday spirit.

Bess is going to get married. That is not a good thing as she is going to marry the wrong man. The love of her life, Billy, has left and she is going to settle for second best. However there is this matter of Grandmother’s rose. Bess needs to have it identified and the only one to do it is Billy only Bess doesn’t know it is Billy until she goes to pick him up. Now the fun really starts. Mystery, marriage proposals and romance, these are all ingredients in this highly entertaining story. Suzanne Woods Fisher writes an interesting story that moves along at a remarkably brisk pace. Ms. Fisher has a lot of characters to work with and she provides an excellent story for them to grow in.

Captivating Amish Christmas Tale  Sep 11, 2014
There is nothing better than settling down in your favorite chair to read an Amish romance novel by one of the best authors in the Amish genre, Suzanne Woods Fisher. Her Christmas themed novel, Christmas at Rose Hill Farms (Revell) should top the charts with the enduring romance and rare rose descriptions enclosed within its pages.

Bess Riehl, an Amish girl 20 years of age living in Stoney Ridge, Pennsylvania, is about to get married to Amos Lapp, a sweet, kind, young man who is perfect in every way except he isn’t his cousin Billy. Bess and Billy grew up together and fell in love despite Billy’s dreadful family life. Billy’s father liked to pit his sons against each other. Billy was the youngest of four brothers and it always seemed like the older three ganged up against Billy. Billy’s Mom died when he was young, and everything went from bad to worse. Billy found solace by spending more time with Bess and her grandmother, Bertha, at Rose Hill Farm until the day came that Billy couldn’t take his horrible family life anymore and ran away, ending up as a rose rustler at Penn State University.

After Billy ran away, Bess spent years waiting for him to return. Finally she had to admit he wasn’t coming back and she started a friendship with Amos. Just before Christmas, they got engaged but with just days to go before her marriage to Amos, Billy showed up at Rose Hill Farm. All of the repressed romantic feelings Bess had for Billy came rushing back but Billy was cold as ice towards her.

The wedding day has arrived and the chickens are roasting, carriages filled with family and friends are arriving, and Bess is sick to her stomach wondering if she should go through with the marriage to Amos. Billy has made it crystal clear that he has no interest in her or staying in town. Everyone including Billy tells Bess that Amos is as good a man as ever lived. Can Bess and Amos find happiness?

Suzanne Woods Fisher inserts the prior history of Billy and Bess during their younger years where appropriate so readers can figure out the burdens that Billy carries and fully understand his character. The background of the story involves finding an extinct rose at Rose Hill Farm that needs to be identified. Readers will find themselves captivated by the history, beauty, and perfume of the roses talked of within the story. God’s faithfulness and forgiveness, the necessity of talking to God and accepting God’s help are some of the beautifully written themes throughout the book. Christmas at Rose Hill Farms will be published September 2, 2014.
