Publishers Description

From noted author Lori Copeland (more than 3 million books in print) comes a romantic new story of God's faithfulness when hope seems lost.

The three wily and beautiful McDougal sisters can swindle a man faster than it takes to lasso a calf. But their luck is running out, and they're about to be hauled off to jail. When the wagon carrying them falls under attack, each sister is picked up by a different man. Unfortunately for Abigail, she's grabbed by a twit of a shoe salesman, Mr. Hershall Digman. She steals his horse and rides off to the nearest town, not giving him another thought...until she discovers those secret papers in his saddlebags. Could Mr. Digman be a Confederate spy?

As if to prove it, the man who comes storming after her is no shoe salesman, but a handsome captain who wants his papers back...at any cost. And Abigail wants a ride back home. Together they embark on his mission, determined not to trust each other...or the God who won't seem to let them go.

Reviews - What do customers think about Sisters Of Mercy Flats?

Sisters of Mercy Flats by Lori Copeland  Dec 11, 2013
Abigail McDougal and her sisters, Amelia and Anne-Marie, were raised by the sisters at the Mission San Miguel after their parents passed away. Mischief was never far behind them and, when they grew to be young ladies, their mischief turned to more serious offenses--scamming the wealthy to support the Mission. Now their crimes have caught up with them. On the way to prison in a jail wagon they are attacked by the Comanche but, just when they think it's the end, they are rescued by three men. In order to save their live they separate and Abigail finds herself with the insufferable Hershall Digman, shoe salesman extraordinaire. Hershall's bumbling, idiotic ways infuriate Abigail and tempers flare. But is Hershall really what he seems or is he in disguise just like Abigail in her Nun's Habit? When Abigail steals his horse so she can return to Mercy Flats to meet her sisters she discovers confidential papers to be delivered to the confederate army. To her surprise Hershall Digman isn't as idiotics as she thought. He's an undercover spy for the confederate army!

Hershall Digman, aka Barrett Drake, has never met a more infuriating woman. Now she has the papers he is supposed to deliver to General Smith in order to stop and attack. The only solution-- take Abigail with him to deliver the message and then return her to Mercy Flats to meet her sisters. As they set out to complete their separate missions together, what was once an act of one tolerating the other has now bloomed into a mutual admiration and maybe... love. Abigail has already given her heart to Barrett but the memory of his late wife still haunts him. Will he finally realize he can't live without her?

Lori Copeland has such a way of spinning a story. Sisters of Mercy Flats drew me in from the very first paragraph and I eagerly awaited the turn of every page. I loved the whole concept of Abigail and her sisters using disguises to scam money from unsuspecting wealthy patrons and as nuns no less. Who doesn't trust a nun? The best part, for me, was the constant tension and bickering between Abigail and Barrett. I laughed out loud at "Hershall's" actions as a bumbling shoe salesman and Abigail's reaction. They wanted to throttle each other and it made for some really great scenes. The story didn't get any less captivating once the bickering stopped and the romance started, maybe more so. It left me smiling and feeling satisfied and I am eager to read the next two books in this series. If you love Historical romance with humor sprinkled in, you'll love this book. I highly recommend it!

Humorous and Adventurous - Easy Read  Aug 6, 2013
If you are looking for a humorous, entertaining quick read, this is it. It did not take long to read this fun story of the three McDougal sisters. Scheming and conniving they finally meet their match. The book is mainly about one of the sisters, Abigail, who is rescued by an odd man she is led to believe is a shoe salesman. But just as she is hiding behind a disguise, so is he! The book is full of adventure as they take turns getting in and out of scrapes together, each, on occasion taking the upper hand. Will they ever learn to work together? Some of the occurances in this book are almost unbelievable, but at times I just enjoy reading a slightly unbelievable book for the sake of getting lost in the story and what could happen. Since Abigail grew up orphaned and fatherless and is strongly independent, it is difficult for her to learn to trust a Heavenly Father and change her ways. Does she? Hershall struggles with rejection, can he overcome his fears and trust a woman again? Guess you will have to read it to find out! I enjoyed this book and am hoping Lori is planning several sequels as my curiosity about the McDougal sisters has been peaked. I am thankful to Harvest Publishers for sending me a copy of this book to review. All opinions are my own.

A unique and wonderful story!!!  Jul 29, 2013
I REALLY love this book! From the beginning I was laughing like crazy! Abigail is my kind of character! One that is tough and doesn't let anyone get away with anything. From early on sparks fly both from tempers and chemistry between the two lead characters! Sisters of Mercy Flats is an original and wonderful idea. Lori fills the pages with some twists and interesting decisions. I really loved the way the civil war was laced in and the back stories of the characters. There was one issue that I had, and that was when they were getting milk from heifers. You can't get milk from a heifer. To produce milk the cow must have had a calf and therefore it is no longer a heifer but a cow and a cow alone. (Sigh) but I digress. ;) Anyway I loved this book and I can't wait to see what happened to the other sisters! I am SO anxious to read the other stories and see if they really do all get back together in the end. Another unique character that I can't wait for (and I don't want to give anything away but I must give a shout out) is the Crow brave that is not a villain but a hero. So many times in history and many stories the Crow people are painted as villains and really cruel people. While I kinda think that is the way quite a few of them were it was very refreshing to read about a Crow brave doing something good! I think this is a Must Read and I will go so far as to think that this series is going to be one of my favorites. The characters are so unique and lovable and Lori's stories and style are so great I must recommend that you read Sisters of Mercy Flats. It made me laugh all the way through! :D

Conniving Sisters During the Civil War  Jul 20, 2013
“It was only a matter of time before he caught on to the fact that she was posing as a nun, and the knowledge that she’d tricked him could agitate him so that he might leave her by the wayside. Far better to sit still and keep quiet,” Lori Copeland expresses in her book, "Sisters of Mercy Flats."
This two hundred and fifty-two page paperback book has a beautiful woman dressed in nineteenth century apparel on the front cover. Targeted toward women who like romantic fiction during the Civil War, the Christian tome has no profanity but there are scenes of war, murder and Indian rituals. Although the title promotes plural sisters, most of the story is about one woman’s plot in life to turn to God and change her wayward lifestyle.
McDougal siblings Ann-Marie, Amelia and Abigail are indeed sisters by blood but lately they have been pretending to be religious sisters in full nun attire as they swindle and scam men for money to split with the orphanage where they were raised.
When the three connivers double-cross a newcomer in the Texan shanty town by selling him cattle owned by someone else, they are sent to jail. En route their wagon is under Indian attack, forcing the women to be separated by being rescued by three men taking them three different directions.
The extremely stubborn, indifferent to men and excellent horsewoman, Abigail, flees with the pathetic, awkward shoe salesman, Hershall E. Digman, as their paths serendipitously cross. Immediately Abigail finds such distaste in the uncoordinated gentleman, she steals his horse and saddlebags to be rid of his stupidity, hoping to meet up with her two sisters at their designated location. But when she looks at the contents of the inept twit’s possessions, she realizes she had been duped by his mannerisms.
Mr. Digman desperately needs the papers in the bag so has to find the schemer quickly. When the odd couple meet again, they not only have to face each other, they have to look inward at their own faults and call on God for grace, mercy and redemption.
As fictional escapism, Copeland writes rapidly and with feeling discussing how Southern people lived and loved during the Civil War. Yet as the story concludes, the reader never knows the outcome of the other two siblings, which, no doubt, may be next in the book’s series.
