Item description for Seagrass Pier by Colleen Coble...

Overview
Seagrass Pier is the perfect place for Elin to hide from a killer, but an old love's ability to see her true heart could be her undoing. When Elin Summerall contracted a virus that damaged her heart, she was lucky to get a transplant. At first it was an overwhelmingly good gift. But then she began to remember a murder she never witnessed-the murder of her heart's donor. When she reveals what she knows to a disbelieving police officer, she's exposed as a witness and must flee for her life to a remote cottage on Hope Beach. Fearing what might happen to her daughter and mother, she asks Marc Everton for help, though she hasn't seen him since the night her father died. She remembers that night with shame, and she never told Marc about their daughter. Marc is less than convinced that Elin's "memories" are real. He is blindsided by the news about his daughter, but for her sake, he agrees to help. Then he begins to notice the small ways Elin is different. She now likes coffee, her musical tastes have changed, and she's ditched her jeans and sneakers for dresses and high heels. As Elin tries to stay alive and bring the killer to justice, she begins to doubt her own identity. Did her new heart save her life only to cause her to lose herself? And if she's really changed, why does her new heart love Marc just as much as her old one did?

Publishers Description

"Complex characters and a tense plot make this a thrilling tale of romantic suspense. Fans of the other titles in the series will not be disappointed with this gripping installment, and the intricate and eerie story line will entice readers who enjoy books by Ted Dekker, Iris Johansen, and J.D. Robb." --"Library Journal "

In a secluded corner of Hope Beach, one woman must decipher a stranger's memories . . . before they cost her everything.

Elin Summerall was one of the lucky ones. Not only did she get a heart transplant, but the donor was a perfect fit. A miraculously perfect fit.

But when Elin begins having violent flashbacks--and vivid dreams of being strangled--she realizes that she has been the recipient of more than just a new heart . . . Elin is remembering her donor's murder.

Her strange affliction has attracted some unwanted attention: from the press, from the authorities . . . and from the killer himself. Now, living alone with her young daughter and aging mother, Elin is being stalked--by a man she's only met in her nightmares.

The police are dubious of her story, but one off-duty FBI agent is eager to help her: Agent Marc Everton, the father of Elin's daughter.

Of course, he doesn't know about that. Yet.

Now, in a remote cottage on Hope Island, Elin and Marc must probe the secrets buried in her borrowed heart. And there's no time to waste. One man is desperate to silence her--before she remembers too much.

More About Colleen Coble

Best-selling author Colleen Coble’s novels have won or finaled in awards ranging from the Best Books of Indiana, the ACFW Carol Award, the Romance Writers of America RITA, the Holt Medallion, the Daphne du Maurier, National Readers’ Choice, and the Booksellers Best. She has over 2 million books in print and writes romantic mysteries because she loves to see justice prevail. Colleen is CEO of American Christian Fiction Writers. She lives with her husband Dave in Indiana.

She was born January 19, 1952, in Wabash, Indiana. She was raised on a farm in Wabash County, Indiana, the eldest of four children. Her father, George Rhoads, was a farmer who also worked as a guard at General Motors. Her mother, Peggy Rhoads, was a housewife. She has three brothers: Randy (who died in 1990), Rick, and David. She graduated from Southwood High School, in Wabash County.

Coble’s early books were short historical romances published by Barbour Publishing under its Heartsong Presents imprint. The first four novels were set in Wyoming. Coble says she was inspired to write them when her brother Randy was killed by lightning on August 28, 1990. After a visit to Wyoming, where he had lived, she was inspired to do what she’d longed to do for several years: actually write a book. Wyoming became the setting for her first four romance novels, set in the wild West of the 1860s: Where Leads the Heart, Plains of Promise, The Heart Answers and To Love a Stranger . It took her a year to write the first one because she continued to work at her full-time job as a receptionist at Wabash Electric Supply, where she answered about 1000 phone calls a day.

Coble says, “Born and raised in the Midwest (Indiana), I grew up on a farm with horses, pigs and chickens. I had plenty of adventure–from being dragged by my pony to running my brother Randy’s motorcycle through a fence. Maybe that’s why all my stories have action and adventure in them.”

Reviews - What do customers think about Seagrass Pier?

Mystery in a small beach town  Jun 20, 2014
Colleen Coble's novels, for me, are marked by three factors.
The first factor is the setting, a locale that is always carefully described and full of charm. In this case, it's Hope Beach, a place some readers will know from Tidewater Inn and Rosemary Cottage. Beautiful shoreline, peaceful nights... and crime.

The second is a small "family" of main characters who you really come to love. In Seagrass Pier, we get to meet Elin Summerall. She's the recipient of a new heart... and new memories and new nightmares. Thanks to cellular memory, Elin is having flashbacks to a murder.
Her experiences and her personality made her a fascinating character.
Our Coastguard friends from the previous books make some appearances too.
Josh and Sarah, my favorites, carry their story along a little further with plenty of trips and falls on the way.

And the third factor is suspense. Colleen stirs a ton of mystery into her tales.
This novel was engaging with a capital E. Two people, meeting again after years apart, trying to deny their past history, chasing down a criminal based on her borrowed recollections and his devotion to her. Yep. If you're in the market for a character driven who-done-it, with a stay in a lovely old beach house included, then this is your book.

What a great Summer Vacation Read this will be.

Thank you Litfuse for my review copy!

Great Romantic Suspense  Jun 18, 2014
Seagrass Pier is the third book in the Hope Beach series and I have loved every single book! However, don’t fret if you haven’t read the others in the series. Seagrass Pier stands alone as a great romantic suspense.

Colleen Coble has done an excellent job creating a very exciting story based on the idea of “cell memory”. Elin is haunted by the memory of the murder of the woman who became Elin’s heart donor. The idea that Elin is a witness to a murder based on a transplanted heart could have been an unbelievable plot line if handled incorrectly. However, the author did a wonderful job with this story and made it seem completely plausible and definitely terrifying for Elin.

I really enjoyed the romance between Elin and Marc. Their dynamic as they work together to bring a killer to justice was fantastic. There are some big hurts that must be overcome and trust to be regained. This story does a great job of reminding us that God forgives and we need to as well.

The diary entries that transport the reader back in time and tell the history of the home really added a lot to the story for me as well. There are so many threads throughout this book that are interesting and also kept me guessing about who might be out to silence Elin.

I thoroughly enjoyed Seagrass Pier from start to finish and highly recommend it for fans of romantic suspense.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, through Litfuse Publicity Group, in exchange for an honest review, which I have given.

Fresh story with LOTS of suspense!  Jun 16, 2014
I appreciate a book with believable characters, plots I can't figure out and descriptions that make me feel as if I'm part of the story. Colleen Coble meets all my expectations and a little bit more in Seagrass Pier.
When you read a lot like I do, sometimes stories begin to all sound like the same with the same old tired story line. Coble never ceases to amaze me with a fresh perspective. This most recent offering from her will grab you and draw you in from the very beginning...and the way she keeps the story moving, you won't stop until you turn the last page. A Plot that keeps you guessing until the very end!  Jun 9, 2014
Present Day, Virginia

After Elin Summerall's recent heart transplant, unexplained things started happening. She is dreaming vividly about the murder of her organ donor. The authorities didn't seem to believe her but, then, Laura's murderer started targeting Elin. When the one man she hoped to never see again shows up on her doorstep, Elin knows she can no longer keep her secret. F.B.I. agent Marc Everton is the father of her four-year-old daughter, Josie. Marc is shocked and livid at the news but what is most important at the moment is protecting Elin and his daughter. While Marc risks his life to protect them both and Elin struggles to remember pertinent clues, a strong bond of love is forming between them despite their best efforts to remain neutral. Will they find the killer in time? Can they become the real family they both secretly want and their daughter needs?

This is my first book in the Hope Beach series and I have to say that I wish I had discovered this series sooner. This book is top-notch in romantic suspense and very much in keeping with Collen Coble's writing style in her other romantic suspense series. Elin Summerall was experiencing "cell memory" after her heart transplant. I had never heard of before cell memory before and the entire idea was new to me but it did inspire me to do some research. It turns out that a recipient taking on some traits of their donors really can happen. I think it was genius as a major plot point. I thoroughly enjoyed the way Colleen took the aspects of this strange happening and turned it into a plot that's so engaging.

With such a unique and well written plot I was literally hooked from the very first paragraph and it's very rare that I can say that. It kept me guessing throughout the entire book, never really disclosing the killer until the last part of the story, and that kept my mind constantly working on whodunit theories. I almost felt like a private investigator myself. I absolutely loved the fast-paced feel of the book. I really don't care for a story that seems to drag along because they can be boring at times but I had no such problem with this one.

I also loved the characters in this one. Elin, who Marc previously referred to as the "ice princess" was now a completely different person in all outward appearances but the same where it mattered most. She was a fierce protector of her daughter and her mom and had an amazing strength. Marc I loved. He is the prime candidate for hero of the year. He was livid when he found out that Elin had purposely kept Josie from him but managed to put his feelings aside so he could keep them safe. He was strong and courageous, exactly what you would expect from an F. B. I. agent, but he also loved just a fiercely as he protected. Elin's mother Ruby added a bit of humor even though she suffered dementia, a horrible disease that stole her thinking ability. In her most lucid moments I could see the perfect mom. Sara, Marc's cousin, and Josh, the guy she loved with a passion. Both were a part of a Coast Guard recovery team. I liked seeing their relationship play out as well. The setting, Hope Island and Seagrass Pier especially, was perfect for this particular book and the beauty of the area really came through in Colleen's attention to detail. As I said, this is my first book in this series and you can read it as a stand alone novel, I sure did, but I would have preferred to read them in order because I felt like I should already know the characters. At the start of the book that feeling was more pronounced but it soon dissipated and I felt like I had known them forever and quickly grew to love them.

The Christianity in this book is subtle and not in-your-face but at the same time it's obvious the characters are Christians. I like the fact that, with Elin's and Marc's past transgression, Colleen subtly reveals that only One is perfect and Grace is ever flowing with our forgiveness. In a nutshell, Colleen Coble is the Queen of Christian Romantic Suspense. She draws you in quickly and keeps you guessing. I have yet to figure out one of her plots until at least three quarters into the story. You can't go wrong with this book. If you like contemporary romantic suspense you'll love Seagrass Pier! Most highly recommended!
