Item description for Emerald Windows by Terri Blackstock...

Brooke Martin and Nick Marcello, were falsely implicated ten years ago in a scandal that cost Nick his teaching job.

They meet again for the first time since then to redesign the stained-glass windows in a historic church - and the rumours start all over again, this time also including Brooke's kid sister, Roxy.

Brooke Martin is a stained-glass artist who fled her hometown of Hayden, Louisiana, ten years ago after a scandal in which, as a high-school student, she was wrongly accused of having an affair with her twenty-one-year-old art teacher, Nick Marcello, who was fired as a result of the gossip. Now, as a struggling artist, she accepts a commission to return to Hayden to redesign the stained-glass windows in the city?s historic church only to find that the person who hired her was in fact Nick Marcello. Nick is now a Christian, but that doesn?t stop the gossip from starting all over again once Brooke returns, sparked by Abby Hemphill, a trustee of the church. Brooke?s family is greatly bothered by the gossip, especially her younger sister Roxy, now in high school, who has problems of her own and is in fact, as Brooke discovers to her dismay, somehow involved with a mystery married man, Bill. Despite the hypocrisy of many of the church members, Brooke begins to see the mystery of God?s relationship with man as she designs the window panels. When Brooke comes to a point of surrender to God, she and Nick confess to each other that, although they didn?t act on their feelings for each other years ago, those feelings were nevertheless there, contributing to the feelings of guilt they?ve suffered all these years. They kiss. Meanwhile, Abby Hemphill is finally successful in convincing the church trustees to freeze all funds for the window renovation. Nick and Brooke offer to continue the work for free. In a Gift of the Magi touch, Nick and Brooke, unbeknownst to each other, each sell something of great value to finance the work. Brooke discovers that Roxy?s married man, Bill, is Bill Hemphill, Abby?s son. He has been pursuing Roxy for months through threats and intimidation, but in fact Roxy has not given in to him yet. Brooke tells Bill and Abby she will go to the press with the whole story unless it stops now. As the book ends, Brooke and Nick are engaged and church members raise enough money to reimburse them for their expenses and labor in finishing the church windows.

Publishers description for Emerald Windows...

Ten years ago, devastated by an ugly scandal, Brooke Martin fled the small town of Hayden to pursue a career as a stained glass artist. Now Brooke has returned on business to discover that some things never change. Her spotted reputation remains. Tongues still wag. And that makes what should be her dream assignment tough.Brooke has been hired to design new stained glass windows at Hayden Bible Church. The job is a career windfall. But Nick Marcello is overseeing the project, and some in the church think Nick and Brooke's relationship is not entirely professional--and as before, there is no convincing those people otherwise. In the face of mounting rumors, the two set out to produce the masterpiece Nick has conceived: a brilliant set of windows displaying God's covenants in the Bible. For Brooke, it is more than a project--it is a journey toward faith. But opposition is heating up. A vicious battle of words and will is about to tax Brooke's commitment to the limit. Only this time, she is determined not to run.

Reviews - What do customers think about Emerald Windows?

ok  Jan 10, 2007
This book was good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed others of Terri Blackstock's. It was more predictable than her plot lines usually are.

I loved it!!!!! : D  May 13, 2006
Eighteen year old Brooke Martin leaves her small town Hayden for seven years, after the principal's wife Abby Hemphill spreads rumors through the whole town in the newspapers about a new 24 year old art teacher's romance with his student.
None of this was true. Brooke was Nick's favorite student because she was very talented, and he was helping on her project several times outside of school, where Abby Hemphill saw them together, started this rumor, and fired Nick.
After seven years the pastor of Hayden's church hired her to design new stained glass windows for Hayden's Bible Church. When she comes she realizes that it was Nick's idea to hire her, and now she has to make a decision. If she takes the job she will let the rumors start all over again, and if not, this will be the second time Nick looses her job because of her.
I enjoyed this book a lot! And I highly recommend it to everyone!

Very disappointing  Jan 7, 2006
The Publishers Weekly Review was exactly right on. Terri Blackstock is one of my favorite authors, but this book was completely unrealistic and therefore not enjoyable. And did anyone else notice that the characters "whispered" everything?! I would recommend Blackstock's other books, but definitely not this one.

Interesting storyline - predictable but enjoyable  Aug 24, 2005
This is the first Terri Blackstock novel I've read. Not bad. I was intrigued by the promise of a storyline involving stained-glass window artists. (It's what made me buy the book in the first place.) While the story had some portions that were rather weak, I thought the plot moved quite steadily and managed to hold my interest. I also felt that I really got to know the characters well and it left me wanting to know about their individual futures. The Christian values and struggles were expressed in a meaningful way. I really liked the way Blackstock spoke the truth of Scripture through Nick's grandfather. I would definitely read another Blackstock novel!

How amazing was this?  Oct 30, 2003
This is an awesome book. I read Terri Blackstock's "Newpointe 911" series and enjoyed it immensly, and I also read her "Cape Refuge" series and loved it. I thought she could never possibly write anything better. Well, she wrote Emerald Windows, which I just recently read and it was a whole new spin that was very enjoyable. I liked the romantic, yet real enough to believe story line, and I love her description of every aspect of the story!
