I have been wallowing in my own bleak world for months, not knowing what I'm supposed to be doing with my life, not knowing if anything I did would matter anyway. I didn't go looking for this book, it just jumped off the shelf at me. It is God's personal message to me. I am now inpired to "Go forth and do good things" and I know that what I do WILL matter.
I plan to conduct a study group at my church with this book as I know it has a message for every single person, albiet may be different than my message.

| Beth Moore's Get out of that Pit is a practical, evangelical tool that could be used to reach out to non-believers. It introduces God in a totally understandable way and spotlights how Christians and non-Christians alike have "bad" seasons in life. I found it not quite for me, I am deep in a pit
but I found it to be too repetitious for me
I only listened to the 1st two cds and I really couldn't
anymore maybe one day I will finish it but
it just wasn't what i needed right now I'm seeking something
more then just a pep. I really thought it would be much more than
it was sadly. I do like Beth Moore but now I've turned to Joseph Princes teachings and a few other's who don't get into prophetic teachings.....sure we all need inspiration but realistically

I received Beth Moore's Get Out of That Pit for my seventeenth birthday as a gift from my mom, along with Bill Giovannetti's book How to Keep Your Inner Mess from Trashing Your Outer World. A little suspicious as to what she was trying to say to me with those two titles, I was reluctant to start straight into the self-help books. Eventually I got around to reading Beth Moore's book and found it to be quite different from the Dr. Phil course on repairing the broken "inner child" I was expecting.
Abused as a child, Moore's been in the pit herself and clearly conveys that the purpose of this book is to steer readers clear of emotional and spiritual pits in their own lives. She accomplishes this well, leaving no excuses for self-pity, depression, anger, and bitterness. Moore has a Texas girl, meat and potatoes kind of writing style, which will appeal to some and repel others. Personally, half of her references to fast food and pop culture went way over my head. Born and bred twenty minutes from Boston, I have natural aversion to all things southwestern. However, even an uptight northeastern book worm like me can appreciate the wisdom that Beth Moore offers to help those in spiritual darkness. I will also say that her sense of humor prevents heavy topics from becoming overwhelming. Moore's approach is theologically sound and she doesn't beat around the bush on tough issues.
A couple of features of the book are 21 prayers (three for each day of the week) beautifully crafted from scripture and a comprehensive study guide for personal or group use.
