Item description for Enchanted (Full Screen Edition) by Amy Adams...

Beautiful Princess Giselle is banished by an evil queen from her magical, musical animated land and finds herself in the gritty reality of the streets of modern day Manhattan. Shocked by this strange new environment that doesn t operate on a happily ever after basis, Giselle is now adrift in a chaotic world badly in need of enchantment. But when Giselle begins to fall in love with a charmingly flawed divorce lawyer who has come to her aid even though she is already promised to a perfect fairytale prince back home she has to wonder, can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?

Outline
Life is idyllic in the fairytale world where conflict is minimal and breaking into song solves every problem, but what happens when a princess from the fairy world gets magically transported into the real world? Enchanted begins in the animated fairytale world of Andalasia where Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) is destined to marry Prince Edward (James Marsden) and live happily ever after. Problem is, Edward's step-mother Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) doesn't want to give up the throne and will do anything to get Giselle out of Edward's life. Queen Narissa's solution is to push Giselle into a well that magically lands Giselle smack in the middle of the real world--the center of Time Square in New York City, to be exact. This launches the live-action portion of the film where Giselle immediately realizes that things are frighteningly different in this new world and that she is ill-prepared for the callous ways of the people who inhabit it. Giselle finds herself alone on a stormy night in the wrong end of town, but a chance encounter with Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his princess-loving daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey) leads to a warm, safe place to spend the night and the beginnings of a complicated, yet compelling relationship. As Giselle begins to question the fairy-tale truths she's always inherently believed, Robert's outlook on life and love also begins to change significantly. Parallels to the classic Disney fairytales, Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty abound in the form of a King's and Queen's ball, small animals and rodents who clean house when called, the threat of poisoned apples, characters impulsively breaking into song, and the power of the kiss of true love and the absurd juxtaposition of fairytale idealism and stark reality is hilariously funny. Features music by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz of Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame fame, Wicked's Broadway Elpheba Idina Menzel as Nancy, and even a brief appearance by former Princess voice talent Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas). Enchanted is one of the best, most entertaining Disney films of the year. (Ages 6 and older with parental guidance due to some scary images and mild innuendo) --Tami Horiuchi

Reviews - What do customers think about Enchanted (Full Screen Edition)?

Unexpectedly Brilliant!  Feb 19, 2008
I took my 8 year old to see this movie, expecting that she would like it and I would tolerate it. Wrong! We both LOVED it! So much so that we went back and took Grandad to see it, too and he loved it as well! Amy Adams is perfectly cast as Giselle and Patrick Dempsey acts his part to perfection.

This is a movie that hits all the 'usual' Disney princess fantasy highlights (large production numbers, beautiful costumes, animals, eternal optimism, happy endings). Some of the songs will have you singing for days. Yet, rather unusually for Disney, it manages to make fun of all those Disney classics at the same time as honoring them and it is this element of fun that will keep the whole family watching closely over and over again, competing to see who can spot all the subtle Disney classics references (e.g. Within seconds of hearing the narrator's voice you'll be shouting out, "That's.......")!!!!!

It is predictable, yet surprising at the same time and the ending is delightfully appropriate and satisfying, in my opinion.

Truthfully, I had been put off by the initial trailers for this movie, which I don't think captured the sense of fun, real-life lessons portrayed or tongue-in-cheek script adequately. There is definitely something for everyone in "Enchanted".

It is Ok to Dream because sometimes Dreams come true  Feb 18, 2008
1. I liked the dancing in Central park. It reminded me of Mary Poppins, "Practically perfect" and the Sound of Music, "a doe a deer, a female deer". Enchanted resembled some of the same qualities of these two films: excellent music, a touch of humour, high energy choreography, and brillant usage of colors. Even more enchanting was the positive portrayal of central park which in previous Holliwood films depicted the parks, as, a crime filled and a place to get mugged, winter scenes in central park, "the Santa Claus" and "Elf". Central park looks like a picture out of a Decartes, painting with gentlemen and ladies casually strolly about; a safe place for families, business people, and entertainers.

2. Giselle emergence into the real world through as sewer man hole; oddly strange, as her emergence comes from a dark and dank place of defacation deposits. It reminds me of "Rush Hour" as Jack Chan and James Carter, as they climb out of a sewer portal into too lights and clamour world of Vegas. It is so funny to watch Giselle talk too the animals, sings to the animals, and even dances with the animals; "Evan Almighty" gave her voice lessons. Who wouldn't love the scene where the cockroaches clean the grim filled tub or when Giselle pulls the hair ball from the drain.

3. Giselle irritating damsel in distressing "boo hoo" crying is stomach churning, but if you can tolerate her in "catch me - if you can" then stomach it and pop in the tums and hold on. Robert will catch her, as she free falls into the hands of love. Robert finds her vulnerabilty annoying but he just can't seem to get rid of her. Who said looks don't count? A beautiful princess lost in the worst parts of NY is truly a "never after" scenario.

4. Robert becomes the Hero. The princess is hopeless in trouble and the hero suddenly appears and champions her in a magificent rescue. The princess charms the hero beyond belief with her magical capabilities in both social skill and fun. The hero is hopeless captivated by the princess.

5. The hero is suppose to die. The movie had elements of "Pursuit of happiness", a real person discovering real relationships and meaningful interacts, "what is dating?". Robert and Giselle learn about each other and each other likes and dislikes. However, Giselle says, "It is ok to dream because sometimes dreams come true" - the perfect line proving that "true love can bring us together" - the "Princess Bride" - the ultimate Cinderella story.

6. "My Best Friend Wedding" reversed - as Giselle swoops in to steal Robert away from his significant other, not really a girl friend and not even a wife. Giselle transforms into the ultimate NY and Robert gets a one time dance with her and falls madly in love with her. Giselle should have departed and let Robert continue on his complicated and meaningless life, but instead gets a kiss of "true life, after the evil queen poisons her with a spell of catatonic appeal. Robert is captured by the dragon and like "King Kong" dragged to the top of the spiral and since the dragon is a female queen the role reversal makes sense. Giselle climbs after her love and drags a huge sword along and slays the fiendish dragon. Robert will forever be in debt to Giselle, who will rescue him from time to time from the follies of his foolish ways. "Whose your daddy?"

7. Giselle helps Roberts client and her husband that they still love each other. Marriage has problems and they can survive by remembering the qualities that brought them together.

8. Love in two days is possible, "happily ever after", as demonstrated by "Dan in real life". Everything worked out perfectly: Edward and Nancy get married (Dan in Real life), and Giselle and Robert marry. The perfect holliwood marriage and how many of those marries end at a prestigous law office where parties negotiate on equitible divison of property and children? The legal advice ensuring the strong prenuptial wins (intolerable cruelty).

Enchanted Is Enchanting  Feb 18, 2008
Finally, a film that does exactly what it says on the tin. This is truly a fantastic film for all the family. The film begins as a traditional, beautiful Disney animation set in a wonderful fairytale world filled with Princes and Princesses, magic and giants.

After an unfortunate encounter with a giant, Giselle, a lovely young woman meets Prince Edward and in classic fairy tale fashion, the two fall in love and plan to marry the next day. However, Prince Edward's evil stepmother, Queen Narissa, has other ideas and plots to get rid of Giselle, thereby keeping her throne. The moment when she pushes Giselle into a massive magical pit is when the film makes its ingenious transition from animation to live action. Giselle ends up in New York City - as Narissa evilly puts it "A place where there are no happily ever afters" - and is lost and alone. She eventually runs into a lawyer played by Patrick Dempsey, and his young daughter who is especially taken with her. Eventually, Prince Edward also ventures to the city to find his true love and after this happens, anything goes.

Amy Adams' performance as Giselle, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress - Musical or Comedy is a revelation. She shines in every scene that she is in with her wonderfully sweet and funny peformance, which has her singing at random and calling to her animal friends to help tidy up.

The film is an intelligent send up of classic Disney fairy tales as well as a genuinely heartwarming love story and exciting adventure. Children of all ages as well as adults will love this as it really has something for everyone. One of the best films of 2007, if not ever.

Enchanted is enchanted!  Feb 13, 2008
I saw this movie in the theatre and lOVED it! Giselle is hillarious, so is the prince though he doesn't have as many scenes. There's just the right ammount of everything in it. It's not predictable at all but what really makes it is the acting and the script. I could watch this movie 3 times in a row! So, overall it's probably the best movie ever for all ages get it!

A Humorous and Magical Movie for the Entire Family  Feb 11, 2008
In ENCHANTED the Walt Disney Company shows that the company does have a sense of humor and parodies itself in a mix of classic animation and live action. The story begins in the magical, animated world of Giselle (Amy Adams), a beautiful young woman who can talk to animals and has an impressive singing voice. Giselle dreams of meeting a prince. She meets Prince Edward (James Marsden) one day, the two fall in love, and become engaged to be married. However, Edward's stepmother, Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) knows that the marriage will be the beginning of her downfall. Unbeknownst to Edward and Giselle, Narissa is a witch and casts a spell opening a portal to another world. On the day of her wedding, Giselle is pushed through this portal and finds herself not in the happy, colorful storybook world, but in the damp, dark, and mean streets of New York City. Giselle discovers that this "new" world is not very nice. Her fortunes go from bad to worse until she is rescued by a young girl, Morgan (Rachel Covey) and her divorce attorney father, Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey). As Giselle waits for Edward to come and rescue her, she finds herself falling fall for Robert and has to figure out who her true love really is.

I really liked ENCHANTED and it's a fairy tale movie that everyone can find something to enjoy. Amy Adams shines as Giselle and the movie is worth watching for her performance alone. For women, the movie has not one, but two handsome men vying for their attention. Theirs lots of comedy of all sorts, from simple pratfall humor that children will find funny, to quick and witty allusions that only educated adults will understand. Both the animation and live-action sequences are beautifully made and unlike most of the music parodies classical Disney songs of the past. Let yourself discover the magic and become ENCANTED.
