Publishers Description
An earthquake shakes Southern California and sets the stage for the appearance of Aster, a stranger from a world far from our own. Miracles happen around him, spectacular promises are made, and wisdom flows forth from his lips. Aster says he has come to complete our knowledge, to explain our beginnings, and to correct our spiritual errors. He speaks of one greater than he who will soon return to the earth he seeded long ago. And the world is ready to receive him: politicians seek his advice, religious leaders wish to call him friend, scientists want to study him, and philosophers wish to debate him. But not everything is what it seems in Aster's world. Priscilla Simms, an investigatory journalist, is the only one with doubts. This messenger seems too good to be believed. With the courage of conviction and faith, she sets out to find the truth. It's a search that may cost her reputation, and maybe even her life.

Reviews - What do customers think about Angel?

Oh so close  Feb 16, 2011
Angel is yet another spiritual thriller from Alton Gansky. As Pracilla Simmons, a newspaper woman by trade, is called to represent the human race to “Aster” a being from another world, her faith is challenged in more ways than one. Traditions old and new are tugging at her heart, and Aster must be right, right?

I felt like Pricilla’s character development was superb. The suspense built up as she went back and forth on what she believed causing me as a reader lots of stress! I cared what happened to her! The mystical appearances and unknowns about Aster only heightened my focus on his words, actions, and even thoughts when he did show up, causing almost a fun “discovery” mood, if not for his dastardly self. If this book was a fishing hook, I was just plain stuck there waiting for it to let me go. Besides superb character arcs though, I feel like Lizzy, her solid and encouraging friend, should have received more spotlight time especially once I reached the ending---which was stunning. In a good way ;) The UFO hunter angle wasn’t surprising but I also don’t feel like it was completely fleshed out either. All in all, this was an excellent character based book and with just a few plot tweaks it could have been a masterpiece in it’s genre.

Angel..Amazingly Good.  Oct 8, 2010
[Angel By Alton Gansky]

Angel: Pricilla Simmons is in her office working through yet another hectic day as a news article woman. Getting articles in font getting them online, making sure that _____ has the best stories to be had. When—it happens. An earthquake hits Southern California, nothing terribly out of the ordinary. After the initial shaking starts her friend and co-worker Leo Hart take charge and make sure no one is injured in the multiple story building. No serious injuries is the word of the day, thank God. A walk outside seems innocent enough, after all, she’s a reporter there might be a story to be had. She visits the site Windom Building, the law firm has sustained serious damage but with minimal casualties. Four people are trapped in the basement from the building collapsing down on itself, the Governor Merrel’s daughter is one of them. As the firefighters franticly try to rescue those in the upper stories with ladders while simultaneously digging for the four stuck in the basement the unthinkable happens. Straight out of the B rated films a UFO appears. A solid black, egg shaped diamond appears floating hundreds of feet from the ground. No sounds, no visible engines, still it remains in the air.

Always a reporter Pricilla grabs her camera and Leo and presses forward searching for a great angle, then panning the shocked and awed onlookers. The story of her career. As the black diamond lowers people panic trampling those in their way to escape it’s decent, a controlled slow drop into their midst. Everyone panics—Except her. More out of paralyzing fear than anything else she claims Ms. Simmons stayed at the site as the egg dropped to fifty feet then shattered. With no sound it separated into multiple tiles floating feet from each other in the air never touching, never lowering. Completely acting against the laws of physics. In a whirl of water a being appears, eight feet tall chiseled, and dressed in a one piece white robe. His name? Aster. In a whirlwind of events Pricilla is pushed forward as his spokes person, but what does it mean for her faith in Christ, and why does Lizzy, her best friend, somehow distrust this message bearer that promises to end many of the horrible hardships on earth?

Gansky writing  Jun 25, 2008
Very pleased! Fast delivery and packaged well.

Pastor Gansky is a gifted writer and every one of his books has a twist I least expected. I wonder if his sermons are as interesting!

An Intriguing What-If...  Mar 4, 2008

I've always wondered what the world will believe when the rapture of the church takes place. I think our worldly fascination with alien life will likely be a very logical solution to that question when a heartbeat of time causes the disappearance of millions. Whether you are interested in the end of the world, the Second Coming of Jesus, or the possibility of life on other planets, Angel is a novel that dives into some hefty what-ifs.

I'm not a big Sci-Fi fan and was pleased that Gansky doesn't overdo the lingo. Instead he uses the POV of a woman reporter who receives a special nod from an otherworldly creature and explores the concept of alien life. Though I didn't connect with his characters as much as I like to, the plot kept my attention and kept the pages turning. Secondary characters added some drama and detail that enriched the story. Though not gory, Big Honken Chicken Club members who don't like the idea of aliens might want to either read it during full sun hours or not at all.

The spiritual themes are well handled and a great reminder to focus on the truth so we don't get swept up in what's happening right in front of our eyes.

Another Great Book by Gansky  Feb 4, 2008
Alton Gansky has to be one of the top writers around today. He writes every kind of fiction genre and also does non fiction work as well. This book would be classified as a science fiction type book but really it is more than that. The book starts off with a women(Priscilla) who is recording her last will and testament while in hiding. She then begins to tell her storyand how she got to where she is. An earthquake takes place in California and a stranger(Aster) comes after the quake. The stranger an eight foot all being from a spacecraft claims to bring peace and healing to all nations. He wants Priscilla to help him speak to world leaders and to be his voice for the public. Priscilla begins to have questions about what Aster is teaching and questions his teachings. The book shows how everyone is quick to believe people and to think they are doing good things for everyone. People are quick to follow new teachings without checking to see if they are the truth. I though the ending went a little too fast but then again the whole book never really had any slow spots. A great book I would highly recommend this book.

More Hope than Demon  Dec 28, 2007
I read this book just before reading Demon: A Memior, so I can't help but draw a comparison between the two, since they cover the same topic, demons among us. Unlike Demon, this book more clearly shows that the fallen angels are not free to do as they please. I don't thing they are permitted to go as far as Alton Gansky goes in this story, but it is fiction. In the end, the good guys win, so it is more uplifting than Demon.

The book is well written, but it fails as a science fiction book. One of the reasons given for a character determining that the creatures were not who they claimed to be was the way the spacecraft cast a shadow on the buildings. Given the amount of information that the book implies the character has available, the character did not have enough information to make this determination. This problem does not ruin the book, but it is an issue that should not appear in science fiction.

Favorite Gansky book  Dec 22, 2007
Angel is not your typical "alien visitor who is not what he seems." This is an impressive novel with plenty of action, plot twists and compelling characters. Gansky's J.D. Stanton series have been my favorites of his until this stand-alone book came out. The story is narrated by a reporter who expects her life to be taken before she can tell the world of her findings. She was the closest person to the benevolent alien who brings new technology and healing to the earth. Along the way she discovers the truth, and flees in hopes of thwarting his plans. As a Catholic, I enjoyed the Christian aspects of the book in particular, and saw a much broader meaning than a non-Christian might see, but I truly believe anyone at all would enjoy this book immensely.
